6mm-300WSM

6-300--I'll be interested in how it pans out....

I have just recently added a 6-284 27" 1:8 twist with a Savage dual port action...

Shooting 117 DTACs @ an avg of 3200 with 56.5 gr of Ram Magnum...it will go to 58gr (3275 avg), but that's on the edge, and I'm very happy with the performance at 56.5....

Best of luck

The ww 872 is what I can fill the case with the lite bullets, ::), the one my guns shoot well. I should try it with some heavy bullets just to get some idea of the velocity I can get with it. I did order a 30 " barrel from ER Shaw yesterday for the new build, 8 to 10 weeks but as soon as I get it I`ll chamber it and see how it does. I did order it in 7 twist.

WOW, Catfish. With the speeds you can get out of that 6-300WSM, I would have thought you could stabilize the heaviest bullets with a 8.5 twist, maybe even a 9 twist.

I know you want speed and to kill coyotes. So aren't you concerned you might spin the bullets too fast and cause them to fly apart?

:o I have one with 26" pac nor barrel 8 twist, trued sa 700 rem. I thought it would be a really good varmint and deer rifle with the 105 berger and maybe 105 a-max.
Didn't work out, anything over 3250 both bullets went poof. couldn't even get sighted in. I was pushing them at just over 3400. The only bullet that would hold together for me was the 85 grain nosler partion. I think a 8.5 or 9 twist might have been better. These were the berger target bullets which are supposed to have a thicker jacket.

Right on, jde650. With more velocity, less twist is needed to stabilize. And more twist just increases the chances of the bullets going "poof".
