6mm 115s.......what is the skinny on them

I have a Krieger 7.5tw abt 30" and am wanting to do a 6XC with some mods for up to 1K shooting, more for fun than anything. Having read several opinions on this bullet, am kinda on the fence with it. Did Berger have a problem of them not holding together at one time? Change mfrg # did they for a new&improved? Did they rectify it? 108s? are they well respected?

I know ea rifle is an entity unto itself etc. The extra wgt has my attention but in the grand scheme of things, is it really that important?

I was shooting Hbn coated DTAC 115s at 1000 yds this Sat. with my T2K with a 30" Krieger 1:7.5 twist with no problems at all. Great bullets !!!!!

115 DTAC's will easily stabilize in a 1-7.5 twist. However, I have a 1-7.5 Bartlein in a Dasher and the BERGER 115 VLD's will NOT stabilize in my rifle. If you plan on shooting the 115 Bergers >>> go to a "straight" 7.0twist.

Super info and many thanks........that's zactly the feedback I was looking for.

If anyone else has anything to toss into the pot, please feel free.

I got a box of 500 and had to sort them in 2 groups. They pointed the bullets where some had needle points and the others had big open meplats. 12" of vertical difference from the center the two 7 shot groups at 1k. I called SSS to let them know, they couldn't believe it so I sent pics and never got a response.

I would try the Berger 105 hybrid. If you check the BC’s you will see there is little difference, 0.279 vs. 0.275 and that might change depending on your velocity and the stability factor. The plus side is you can push the 105’s faster in a given case. To me it is a win-win situation.

Berger's 115VLD can be a fussy one to get to shoot. Mostly because they're really long so a 1:7 twist is almost mandatory. I know some folks say they use 'em in 1:7.5's but I think those are the exceptions rather than the norm. I tried a few years ago in a 26" 1:8 Schneider 6XC (T2k), had several 'disappear' down-range they were so unstable.

Tubb's DTAC115 is more forgiving in that it's not a VLD profile as well as being shorter. In that same barrel they'd shoot pretty good but in a 1:7.5 PacNor I bought from John Holliger they were exceptional.

I had a 30" Bartlein 1:7.8 chambered for 6XC in 2008 for a long-range rifle I'd planned to use the DTACS with. In the end I went with Berger's 105VLD after determining there was no functional advantage for a sling'n'irons rifle over the 115's.

This year I had a Kreiger 1:7.5 chambered for 6XC for another action, still feel the 105's are the best choice while admitting I haven't tried any of the DTACS in it that I have left.

Once my supply of VLD'S is gone I'll be going with their 105 Hybrid, every bit as good in both rifles.

I use the 105 hybrids in my 6xc and they are awesome. Can push them very fast with RL-17 and have shot 1000 yd matches at 3260 FPS MV. I have 115 DTACS but they run 200 FPS slower at the muzzle. Will use them once the throat erodes and I need em to reach the lands.

My 6XC has a 1/8 barrel. Tried the 105 Hybrids with several powder-primer combinations, jumped, jammed nothing worked. Group size was OK for a hunting rifle but not F Class. My testing was done at 300 yds. On the other hand the 105 VLD's grouped extremely well. Not knocking the Hybrids they are fine bullets, they just don't work in my 1/8 barrel. Next season I'll go to a faster twist. I don't know if the 115's have any great advantage over the 105's?

The 115's should be perfect in a 1:7.5 with the 6XC. If you run a smaller case you'll probably need something quicker. I had good luck with the 115 DTAC's but the 105 Hybrids were even more consistent.

I run a 7.5 twist 6SLR and started with Dtacs. The shoot very well. I set up some 115 Berger hunting for an antelope hunt a few years back. If memory serve the shot well too. I drank the koolaid and switched to hybrids and they shoot great past 100. Never got them to group well at 100 till I got a batch that was .020 shorter at the ogive.

Now I'm playing with the 108s you asked about. I think I like them the best for consistency. Ive actually shot them the furthest mostly due to opportunity. I still have a bunch of all of these bullets, but I seem to stay with the 108s for our games.
