6mm 115grain Berger & Dtac, any good?

Shorter strings aren't an option in competition: you sign up to shoot, you get 20 shots for score in,usually) 30 minutes. Rarely is there time to stop & clean your barrel & even if you could you'd then be unsure whether those shots remaining would need sight adjustments for the clean bore. Unsettling at best when your focus should be on the wind....

Both aspects are problems if you desire to score your best with the 20 rounds fired for score. Bullets that are unpredictable in accuracy at the end of a string of fire are frustrating at best; bullets that never reach the target are far worse.

Forgive the ignorance of a non-competitor. Is the problem with 22 shot string accuracy or blowups,vs shorter strings) related to barrels heating up or fouling...or to something else?

It's just when you have to run 22 shots in a row with no break you generally have to run milder loadings for the group to hold and accuracy to stay tight. I have done a lot of group testing for 20+ shot groups and normally hot loads will hold for a while but then come apart the longer you continue shooting. Bench rest shooters can get away with fast hot loads if they are only doing a few sighters and then 5 or 10 record shots, but in highpower that type of load will typically cause you to lose a match because it won't hold the whole way,i.e. 22 shots - 2 sighters and 20 record shots).

If your shooting at a level where bullets are prone to blow ups, you will usually see them more likely the hotter your barrel gets and the more you shoot with no break.

Has anyone here shot the 115's in a Dasher? Quickloads seems to show that the case cap of the BR/Dasher isn't quite enough to push the bullets at 2950+ without creating excessive pressures. RL 15/Varget shows to be a little too fast, with RL17/4831 to slow for the case. Barrel is a 1-8' twist..Any thoughts or experiences?

Thanks

I missed this post when it started.

I don't understand the issues with the 115's. I have been shooting the 115 DTAC's since they came on the market. First in a 6XC and now in the 6CM.

In the 6CM I shoot them at 3050 to 3150,depending on the barrel) with 49 to 49.3 gr of H1000. No issues with accuracy or blowups. In fact, I set a national record on a 200 yard reduced slow prone with 200-17X on the 2nd string slow prone. Meaning that I was shooting shots 89 through 110 on that day.

I see the same results at longer ranges with shots 67 through 88.

I don't know what the difference is. However, I do jump my 115's DTAC and now the Berger's at 40 thou. Possibly, jumping the bullets makes a difference. Now that I'm jumping the Berger's if find them to be slightly more accurate than the DTAC's

Just my .02.

Joe,I haven't had any problems with 115 dtac's out of my 6CM at 3150.I had 1 blow up when I did not clean the barrel properly, but since then everyone has scored. It pays to brush the barrel.Good shooting Joe and thanks for such an accurate caliber with outstanding barrel life. It's giving the 6br's and 6.5's a tough time.
