6mm 105 A-Max

How far off the lands do you load the 105 Amax? I have not tried them touching or into the lands because of magazine restrictions, has anyone else? I'm considering a ACIS magazine for my RPR to solve that problem, but not excited to unless it helps. 105 Berger Hybrids certainly shoot more consistently for me at 0.030 off than the Amax's which seems to be their best depth I've tried.

Thanks in advance!

These, like any bullet including vld's will shoot when jumped. If you have your powder charge / node figured out its just a matter of seating them deeper .010" at a time and you should be able to find an accuracy window of around .030" wide. The key is the powder node, it has to be stable and wide also.

Loaded 4, 105 amax with 32 gr of RL15, 450 primer, 003 neck tension, .015 off the lands in my X7, 6 Dasher hunting rig. Fired six rounds of other loads to foul barrel (26" Rock Creek). Four went into .515, the last 3 were .176 (95 yards) mv, 2857. Scope is a Redfield 4-12. I think they are pretty accurate. Barlow

John Kruzan uses the the 105 Amax for 1,000 plus yard prarie dogs.
Plenty accurate for that. And they do not crawl off. If I was shooting
deer with a 6 mm, that would be my bullet of choice.

What caliber and what range?
Hi Mr. M, The range on the doe was about 120 yards the caliber was a 22x47 lapua, also I shot 3 groundhogs this summer with the 22x47 over 500 yards the longest being 568 yards. I have shot 104 groundhogs this summer and have used the 22x47 on most of them.

So I fooled with the jump and improved things. 6x47L, 18 inch McGowan bull, Single shot Savage 110 action, 36x Sightron Big Sky, 105 A-Max, 35 grains Varget, 0.03 jump. 200 yard 8 shot string, .25 vertical and .75 horizontal. Slight right to left variable wind, 5 wind flags.... I am PP at reading them. COULD NOT BE HAPPIER. Now off to 500 yards. I just love it when a plan comes together!

As said many times before but has also been criticized equally as much, the Amax makes a great hunting bullet regardless of caliber. 95 grain Berger's are great on deer too. Still I prefer the Amax over the Berger's for deer.

What kind of velocity are you getting from the 18" barrel?

Thanks
Joe

Joe, I don't have a chony., if i can get them consistently in one hole.... I don't care how fast they are going. However, by extrapolating the ballistic tables, I believe about 2700 at the muzzle.

I don't shoot over 500 yards and am a firm believer that short fat barrels shoot better than long skinny ones. I think it is easier to get a straight hole down a 20 inch tube than a 30 inch one.

You guys are lucky! I've only had luck with the Amax in my .224's my other rifles are fans of Berger or Sierra. The 7WSM pistol would shoot them fair but liked the Sierra's better. Later,

The Vmax are being replace because the tips are reported to melt at speeds above 2800 fps. I've been using them in an 6mm Creedmoor to break in the barrel, accuracy has been sub moa.

I have been using the 105amax for years out of my 6x47lapua @ 3150fps and have shot deer from 5 yards all the way out to 820 yards. Wonderful bullet in 6mm.
