6mm 105 A-Max

Couldn't get 105 Bergers, will I be disappointed with the A-Max. Do have some 90 VLD Bergers to try.

How do the 105 A-Max react on Whitetail? Too light???

Bill

I would think they would be fine I shot a whitetail doe with the 22 cal. 80 gr. A-max the velocity was about 3200 fps and it was DRT.
Drags

They are accurate, they work on Whitetail Deer, I know this first hand. So do the others I load for that shoot them. You will not be disappointed.

105gr amax out of an Impala Ram last week, 180y bullet went through shoulder and stopped on opposite shoulder. 243 with a muzzle velocity of 2990fps

For hunting you will be fine. Target shoopting though groups will suffer as the hornady bullet is no where near as accurate as the burger. Or maybe i should use the workd consistent.

How far off the lands do you load the 105 Amax? I have not tried them touching or into the lands because of magazine restrictions, has anyone else? I'm considering a ACIS magazine for my RPR to solve that problem, but not excited to unless it helps. 105 Berger Hybrids certainly shoot more consistently for me at 0.030 off than the Amax's which seems to be their best depth I've tried.

Thanks in advance!

In the 243 they are around 0.030 off and in my SLR I shoot them just short off 0.010 off. The main reason for shooting the amax vs the Berger is the amax is just more available around here but they are deadly and accurate. Friend off mine shot a big Zebra stallion a couple weeks ago with the same 243 Amax combo and the Stallion didn't go more than 50y after receiving a high hart shot

They blow up rock chucks good.......

Went out prairie dog hunting last month and shot with a friend who was using the 105 A_MAX in his 6BR. I was using the 105 Hybrid and the 108 BT's in my 6-47l and Dashers. His results on PD's with the A-MAX was MUCH more explosive then mine with bergers....and I was at least 200 FPS faster across the board.

They all were MOPD!!

I've found reasonable success with 105 A-MAX loaded .020" off the lands (2.769" OAL) and they still fit in the standard PMAG that comes with the RPR. Loaded w/ 46.2gn of H1000 I was getting around 2920fps and 5 shot groups that were +/- .75MOA on average. The only other bullet I have tried are 115gn DTAC's and those shoot right at around .5MOA or better but need to be loaded long which necessitates the ACIS style magazines.

Thanks Archis and Capt. O.! Really helpful info. Sounds like the DTACS and an ACIS magazine are both worth a try.

Just a report:

95 gr Berger Hunting VLD are making one hole groups at 200 with Varget and my McGowan 18 inch bull barrel. Using Varget for the short barrel and just touching the lands. Have not fooled with OAL, no need! 35.8 to 36.8 are doing about the same thing, with no pressure signs. Going to try 105 A-Max today....... if the wind stops.

I have a new theory: Since after 2 shots the group never gets smaller, I am using 2 rounds and if they touch at 200, I load 5 more and use the same target. With the 6x47L, I load in increments of .3 grains and look at vertical and location on target..... separate target for each load. Works better for me than ladder testing.

Im also busy playing with the VLDs in my SLR but I had it throated for the long 105s so im jumping the VLD so far they are probably freefalling half the way to the lands. Will see what they do this weekend

I just hate it when this happens! Yesterday I had a couple of A-Max loads that almost touched, so I loaded 5 in the middle and the 105 A-Max out shot the 95 Bergers this morning! Both just touch the lands no jump, no jam.

Happy with this barrel, it seems to shoot everything darn good.

They do a job on ground hogs. 6X47 with the 105AMAX going 3043fps I wouldn't be afraid to kill whitetail with them at all.

I've had great accuracy with 105 Amax out of my Rem 700 VLS .243 and a RPR .243 but I've never shot an animal with either.

This afternoon I shot a .580" 3 shot 100 yard group with the Amax out of a Weatherby Vanguard S2 chambered in .240 Wby Mag. If this load pans out I plan to use it for an antelope hunt next month.
