6mm-06?

I appreciate all of the feedback and thoughts from you guys, I have decided for practical reasons and ease of buying box store ammo that I'm going to proceed with the 25.06. I'm plan to build the gun to look as the older BDL custom deluxe rifle did and have the wood stock bedded and trigger work done on the factory trigger. Once I finish piecing the rifle together I plan to get it cerakoted to look as it were factory blued to keep the older rifle in excellent shape look.

Be sure to try having the barrel free floated first. To maximize the consistency and repeatability of your wood stock, I suggest that you have the barrel channel, magazine cut out and under the recoil pad water-proofed. This will prevent the raw wood from absorbing moisture and harming the potential accuracy and repeatability of the rifle.

You haven't mentioned scopes but please try to purchase the best scope you can afford. Trashcos and BSA's should never be thought about but you can look at Burris, Leupold or even Nikon (better quality versions). Some of the Optics houses have very nice Zeiss scopes at reasonably discounted prices.

I want to use a heavy barrel so I will probably have to get the barrel channel opened up some to accommodate that. As for optics, I really like the way the older Remington looked with a black gloss Leupold gold ring. I run NF on my current rifles but that look doesn't work for me with a pretty wood stock.
 
It looks like I am a few years late to this conversation and I am new to this round. That being said, I have a buddy who got a 6mm-06 from his grandfather. The guy who loaded rounds for him has died. My friend does not load his own rounds, does anyone know if any manufacturers are producing these or is it strictly hand loading?

Strictly a hand loading affair…..
 
Kenny Jarret once came up with a 6mm on a .270 case. Barrels didn't last long and I don't remember there being much interest. It was called the 6mm Catbird. It had a 40 degree shoulder and he claims 4100 with a 70gr bullet.

How much are you going to shoot the rifle? A 6MM-06 will eat barrels with hot loads and there are no factory loads.

Chamber for 280 Remington, you can buy factory or load. It's a great cartridge.

The 280 can shoot soft for those who need it or can be juiced to higher pressures. Factory loads are new 75 to 80% capability in most cases.

Or an Ackley improved, either 25 or 280 can still shoot factory rounds.

Sounds like you want an old bdl varmint special 25-06. Ole glossy girl with the shiny leupold. Dont blame you. Theres just something about those old blue and walnut classics. Build what you want and that 25 is gonna be easy and work well.

I've never been much of a wood stock or blued metal fan but I agree with you there is just something special about those old Remington BDL Custom Deluxe rifles that made them look really good. When I had my 20-222 built I tried to replicate the look of one of those but I went with black Cerakote instead of having it blued and the scope is matte not gloss. It turned out pretty well but it has more of a retro mod look, not that classic Remington BDL Custom DLX look. My dad had a early 70's 22-250 "Varmint Special" those things weighed a ton but they always seemed to shoot extremely well.

I agree. And you sure got a nice 20-222 there also.
