6GT for F-class???

His results were also acquired using a muzzle brake, take the brake off and shoot it against the 6 Dasher, 6BRA or 6BRX. Not saying the 6GT can't shoot but he is not testing it apples to apples. It will be interesting to see how taking the brake off will affect his shooting since brakes are not allowed in true F-Class.

I shot a wildcat about the same size as the GT for F Class quite a few years back. I didn’t do any better with it than I do with the BRX. The extra speed doesn’t really buy you anything other than shorter barrel life. While it seems like it should be an advantage in the wind, at the range it just doesn’t work out that way. It’s tough to beat a Dasher/BRX/BRA for a mid size 6mm. Not that it won’t work, it just won’t inherently beat the BR based wildcats. He who reads the wind the best for the day wins..

I started F-Class with a 243AI shooting 105s at 3250fps because that's what I had. Obviously much more horsepower than the 6GT. The wind still threw me a lot more than the 7s. Built a 284 and never looked back.

It will shoot fine and I'm sure it will be a pleasure but it won't be competitive.

shooting 7prc without a brake is no pleasure. Even .284 compared to 6mm is no fun. There should be a separate class for people shooting 6mm.
I have a 7FCP. A RAD system will make a 7mm a pleasure to shoot.
And yes a 6mm Open class would be a blast!

Two things jump out at me regarding that rig. He's not shooting it and placing in F Class because brakes are not allowed in F Class. The reason being that you are not allowed to concuss your neighbors on the firing line. The second thing that strikes me is the bipod. He would be shooting in a class called F Open within F Class. In doing so he would be competing against folks using up to 2000 dollar front rests and heavy rear bags like the SEB Bigfoot and who are running larger calibers that buck the wind at 1000 yards better than the 6mm's do. Running a PRS style bipod in that crowd is a non-starter.

That said, the 6 GT with a proper setup would be just fine at mid range F Class (300-600) yards. I shoot a 6 BRA at mid range occasionally and have shot some very good scores. Good scores meaning cleaned all the targets with high X counts. I have also shot it in long range F Class (1000 yards) and it did OK but my wind reading skills are not good enough to overcome the disadvantage of a small caliber at long distance. Generally speaking though the small 6mm's are a blast to shoot and capable of very good accuracy. They don't beat you up and they are more than capable of cleaning targets. I include the 6 GT in the list of small 6mm's.

The 6 XC holds MORE Powder than, the 6 GT and HAS been known to, Do, very "Well" at,.. 1,000 Yards !
At least, 4, 1,000 yd Championships have been Won,.. 2 by, David Tubb, One each by, D. DeMille and, German Salazar. ALL with,115 gr. DTAC'S,.. IIRC !
The smaller, 6 GT would NOT be, My choice for, L-R, past, 800 yds in,.. a 6 MM and,...
The 7 SAUM, 7 PRCW or ,a .284 would be,.. much, MUCH, .. BETTER,.. IF, a bit, Windy !

He talked about as much about the scope as he did the caliber. And yep no brakes allowed at any F Class. Not debucking what he is saying just wondering about all he is saying

Don’t forget, these were shot on a MOA LR target, not a half MOA LR FC target.

I realized I addressed more of the cartridge then is there a good reason to build a 6mm. Yes 6mm’s can be quite competitive on mild days. In 5-6mph or less conditions they can win just as easily as a 7mm. On windier days they will make you learn to read the wind better. The more wind the more advantage the 7’s have. I’ve literally had guys at the beginning of a shoot laugh at me for bringing my BRX only to get beat by it. One of those friends not long after that had me barrel a BRX for him and absolutely loves it. Unless it’s really blowing it’s his main gun. And he does very well with it.

As far as 6mm’s go, with several brass manufacturers I’d build a Dasher. It’s just such a well known commodity and stupid accurate. Personally I shoot a BRX because I started with it long before brass was available for the Dasher. But I have shot BRX, Dasher and BRA barrels and all shot very well.

So yes, build a 6mm. You will do well with it on milder days and it will make you a better wind shooter. You’ll find on really windy days the experience with 6 will make you a better shooter when you need your 7..

There are allot of people running 6 Dashers/BRAs and even little bigger 6mms at a 1000y in F-Class when the conditions are lite, when the flags start swinging around the big 7s and 30s are hard to contain when shooting a 105gr around 3000fps but in good conditions you will run with them if you can shoot and at 600y they are allot of fun to shoot.

The easy button is probably a 7mm of some sorts if your only going to have one rifle to compete with

2 rifles for me.
.223 for out to 600
.308 for out to 1000
I couldn't watch the whole video let alone 1/2 of it. I skipped through some of it and heard a lot of blah, blah, blah. Not that I have anything against the 6GT, but had it been a 6XC I would have been more interested.
