6GT for F-class???

2 rifles for me.
.223 for out to 600
.308 for out to 1000
I couldn't watch the whole video let alone 1/2 of it. I skipped through some of it and heard a lot of blah, blah, blah. Not that I have anything against the 6GT, but had it been a 6XC I would have been more interested.
Yea this dude sings a mockingbird song tooting his horn alot. Can't watch it either.

You shoot what you like within the limits of F-Class. I shoot with Mike, and he is a great shooter. This rifle is allowed in our Varmint Tactical subcategory. We allow the use of beaks, but we are only shooting a club level 600-yard match. We also allow shooting from the bench and most do.

I don't want anyone to be limited to "only competition guns allowed" mentality. We would love for anyone with a rig capible of holding 1 MOA to shoot at a club level match. When you step into NRA Sanctioned events the rules will limit the rifle configuration more thoroughly.

Keep drawing in new shooters to your local matches team.

6mm at 600 yards is very competitive. The big stuff just gives you a bit bigger margin for error if you miss a wind call. Most dropped points are just outside not quite clipping a line so even a half an inch of wind resistance can mean winning or losing.

it helps when you're pushing that 90 VLD close to 3000 fps..
That's impressive. I abandoned 90 grain bullets in 223. I was shooting them in a 1:7 twist barrel and they shot tight groups but I struggled to get to 2600 with a couple of different powders. The thing I like about these small 6mm's is that you don't have to push them that hard to get velocities above 2900 and even over 3000 with great accuracy. If I wasn't already invested in 6 BRA I'd probably build a 6 GT.

The rules of f-class just force 6mm out. It is no longer a fair game to compete against magnum cartridges. It does not matter that f-class started with two classes. Sport as anything else in this world is subject to evolution. 200years ago women did not have right to vote, so what. Things have changed. And they should change in f-class as well.
There should be one class up to 6.5 mm and another above 6.5mm, a separate class for magnums regardless of caliber, and ftr of course.

I wouldn't say that it forces the 6mm's out. They can still compete in mid range even though the 7mm's have an advantage with the bigger hole they make and better wind bucking abilities. It's the same in benchrest with the 30 BR. That 30 BR makes a big hole and has a much higher probability of punching out that X ring dot on the BR targets. 7MM's in F Class don't have that kind of advantage but there is an advantage in addition to their ability to buck the wind better with higher BC's. When you look at how rapidly F Class competitors switch to the latest and greatest thing (to 284 a number of years back and to 6.5-7 PRC or variants of that more recently) the issue has more to do with the depth of bank accounts than it does with caliber advantages (even though they exist). F Open has always been a money game and it takes deep pockets to switch to a new gun (or multiple guns) in a new caliber at the drop of a hat. Same goes with the switch to SEB mini's and now to the NEO X's. It is what it is. You can still have fun even though you may never be at the top of the national or world rosters.

As a retired person living on SS and savings I no longer have those deep pockets that I did just 5 short years ago so I'm picking up the scraps of those who are following the heard. I shoot a 6 BRA with a Haverkamp action set in an X Ring stock that someone dumped with 3 barrels and 500 rounds of fire formed brass for 1800 bucks. It was a steal and it shoots. Then I shoot a used BAT action set in a KRG Bravo chassis that sports barrels of various calibers that I have chambered myself. I'm not going to shoot with the top national or world shooters but I can get close and have a hell of a lot of fun doing it. I'll be shooting that BAT action sporting a 6.5 Creedmoor barrel in a match this Saturday against a group shooting 6.5-7mm's and includes a person who just won the Berger Southwest Nationals mid range and possibly the person who won the long range at that same match. Will I win? Probably not but I'll have fun doing it and it'll be a good test for this new barrel I recently chambered and have not shot in a match yet. Not only that but I like the idea of shooting the much hated mighty Creedmoor in F Class matches.:)

Saw one guy shooting a GT at a 1K F Cllass match, he did well, but, most shooters in the hunt are shooting some variety of 7mm. I shoot a Dasher and in the right conditions and with a little help from the Gods, I have won or placed in a number of matches. At 1000 yds, all things being equal, winds and an equally skilled shooter, they’ll beat a Dasher most days for sure. 600 yards and in, the Dasher and 6mm’s shine IMO.

I shoot one in F-Open and love it to bits. However it is not my primary rig, that would be my 7-6.5PRCW. As a mid-range cartridge in conditions that would deteriorate to moderate...the 6GT is an excellent option which is why it's my secondary rig and is also cheaper to feed than the 7mm. If conditions go beyond that...well you can't beat weight which is why the 7mm options take over. The smallest groups I've shot at 500-600m have been with my 6GT and it can belt the X-ring with the best of them if conditions are good - light on recoil but in switchy winds the 7mm is the way to go IMO.

If you can only have one caliber...build a 7mm.

At last weekends 2 matches which was 300, 600, 900 and 1K. String fire Saturday and pair fire Sunday. Saturday was won by a 6BRX and Sunday a Dasher. As far as I know they were the the only 6mm’s there. Saturdays conditions were quite sporting with Sundays last round having quite difficult conditions. 6mm’s certainly can win at club level.
