6CM testing Results

Dick Egolf's cartridge was a straight 243 Win with minimum dimensions. I then changed the shoulder angle and dimensions for neck length and body length. Dick would have approved, but the 6cm isn't his design.

There was no collaboration in the design of the 6CM with Dick Egolf as he was dead several years before I changed his 243 Egolf design to the 6CM. It was called the 243 Egolf Improved on the prints only because I didn’t have a name for it.

The dies are labeled 243 Egolf Imp from Redding only because the first dies I ordered were before I named it. Try to get Redding to change the name on the print….furthermore I don’t care what it is called on the die.

RCW3 is an ego centered individual that only wants you to shoot or purchase his cartridges. Many of them are close to copies of other better designs that he has changed slightly, only to rename them and market them. His 30 deg 243 is all but a copy of the 6CM. Only slight changes in dimensions of the shoulder and body, but only designed after I allowed him to borrow my reamer for the 6CM.

Everything he offers has been designed by someone else and can be purchased elsewhere. Most of the time there is a better option than he offers as he had to change the design slightly to call it his own.

Joe, I'm sorry I screwed up the history behind your 6CM design, memory is part to blame. Like Jim said, thanks for the clarifacation on the design. I did however know that you could and would set the record straight. I enjoy my 6CM's everytime I squeeze the triggers. ;)

Someone is having a bad day!

FWIW - The 243 Imp. 30 we have posted for all to view on our website was made by extending the body of the 6mm Super LR (which pre- existed the 6CM by the way) to permit the cartridge being made to become a fire formed .243 Win case (instead of a shoulder push back re-form case like the 6mm Super LR). The 243 Imp 30 and the 6mm Super LR have the same shoulder diameter, the same shoulder angle and the same body taper and we use the same resize die reamer to make dies for both (but different head spacing by .0659" difference). It's just not correct that my 243 Imp. 30 was some sort of copy of the 6CM which has different body diameters, a different shoulder angle, different head space, and different body and neck lengths. If I take a 6mm Super LR sizing die and move it up about .066" from its normal position in the press, I can use it to re-size the .243 Imp 30., or if I cut .066" off the bottom of a .243 Imp 30 die, I can use it with the 6mm Super LR. The claim that the 243 Imp. 30 is some sort of copy of the 6CM is just not correct!

You can view the 243 Imp 30 information and reamer designs here: http://www.6mmar.com/243_Imp_30_.php

This is an odd comment. The ego, in classic Freudian psychology, is the most central part of the mind and from where we draw our sense of self. So, that is like saying that Robert is a carbon-based life form. Kind of pointless as well as rude.

take a look at some previous Camp Perry results from the Marine Corp. Cup matches and I think you'll see Joe and the 6CM has done well.

now we know the history of 6cm from the horses mouth!!I think robert owes apologies!!

I only posted what Joe told me, and it doesn't matter to me one way or the other who developed the 6CM/243 Egolf Imp. and I will leave it to Joe to reconcile what he tells people. If people want to go personal and get nasty, then that's on them.

Naturally none of this matters as to whether the 6CM is a decent cartridge and whether it works well and is accurate and perhaps this thread would be best if the discussion stayed on non personal factual matters relating to shooting and cartridges.

hoser,

it would be interesting to know the load the top two shooters were using. i guess you can give us yours and it you happen to know the other guys that would be great too.

I've been shooting the 6mm Competition Match round on a barreled action by Chad Dixon of LRI http://www.longriflesinc.com/ for about 6 months.
I have worked up loads of 3100fps to 3300fps.
All loads shoot 1/2MOA or better without any sighn of over pressure.
I know of no other short action cartridge that will load to a OCL of 2.810 and push the HB Berger 105g 6mm bullet faster.
Eight reloads on one piece of brass have been the norm and with 914 rounds down the barrel the rifle is shooting well.
Here in Las Vegas a small tune up Precision Rifle type match is held on every first Saturday of the month (except for July and August).
This year I have shot three of the Vegas matches winning one.

The only problem I have with the round is with slowing it down to meet some match directors speed limits.

Stiller TAC 30 action

Brux 28 inch 8 twist barrel

Winchester brand case

H-1000 powder

Berger Hybird 105s

davidd, its good to see that you are getting results that are common from Joe's 6CM. Congratulations to Lonnie for 1st and Hoser for 2nd at the Steel Safari Shoot out in New Mexico earlier this month, also shooting Joe Hendrick's design the 6MM Competition Match which is more commonly referred to as the 6CM. This was before the 6.5creedmoor was necked down to 6mm that some people call the 6cm also, a little confusing there. People see mine shoot with all the rounds down it and ask how do you get a 6cm (creedmoor) to have such long barrel life and accuracy? I say easy, I don't shoot a 6creedmoor, I shoot a 6MM Competition Match (6CM), design by Joe Hendrick.

I talked to Joe on Friday, he was headed to Camp Perry. Kinda sounds like Dragnet ;D. He said he was on his way to shoot the 1000 yarder with the same rifle he shoots XTC, hope he did well. My 1st 6CM has 3538 rounds down it, out to 850 still holding .4 moa. When I told him that, he said you got a good barrel, that's his way of being modest. I must be blessed because my other barrel a 30" Krieger that has just under 1000 rounds down it is as good as the 27" was back then.

I will never be without a 6CM barrel, I have a 3rd sitting on standby waiting to go. Thanks Joe for designing such a great shooting 6MM cartridge.

1 other thing Brad's 6CM that is featured in the Daily Bulletin is up for sale, anyone looking for a turnkey rifle, well there it is.

what design characteristic do you attribute the barrel life to that the 6mm creedmoor, 6xc, 6SLR, or 6x47 doesnt possess?

I think the key is a slow burning powder.
