6BRX die survey

I started to fireform yesterday and had nothing but problems. Even jamming .060 and using .007 neck tension I was getting more FTF than not. Tried five different primers, two different bullets still no go. Talked to my riflesmith last night and he told me the only way to be sure that it would fire is to use the false shoulder method. When my expander arrives, I will be able to comment further.

You only need 1 brand primer, and if you are having all this going on I`d have him replace the firing pin spring. You have other issues.

I use a BRX FL Redding Type S die (with bushings) that my smith sold me when I started with the BRX. Not sure where/when he got it. I use a Wilson 6BR bullet seater that he reamed out using the same reamer as my barrels.
This source for BRX Redding dies are from 6mmAR.com

My smith made custom dies to match my chamber. Custom dies will give you the least amount of runnout and with the short neck of the BR you will need that.

My thinking is to reduce all the variables with different primers. If I had a bad batch, then switching would eliminate that. changing out the firing pin spring is is a good idea, thanks I will try that.

Federal 205 or the 205M will go bang when all others won`t. Stay with factory spec spring, don`t fall into the lightweight pin heavy spring commonly recommended.

I don't know when they started making them. I bought mine a couple of months ago. They make all of the BR and PPC variations.

I`ll have to give them a call and ask about the BRDX variant...........

That would be sweet!!!!!

My experience with fire-forming when utilizing the false-shoulder method, is more often then not will produce more consistent lengths (blow lengths), from which case volume consistency is also complimented. And not that I'm saying "Jam and shoot" doesn't work, just that I have seen less consistency to blow lengths and volumes in comparison.

Thank you Donovan,
I have ordered the correct tapered expander mandrel for the job. Obviously the jam method doesn't work for me in my application after the experience I just had. During my down time I am going to replace my firing pin springs in all my Panda's as well. (Thanks to tclaunch for that idea).
I might as well start off fresh in every piece of these puzzles we choose to play with.

I've always used the false shoulder method to fireform my BRX cases, I expand to 25 Cal then incrementally size the neck back until I get a very slight resistance upon closing, they come out fully formed with very few lost cases.

I have FF 200 Dasher and 100 Brx from Lapua brass and using the FS method with jam have never lost or had bad result with a case. COW was a different story altogether!

All good info.. my 6brx build is happening as we speak..I will be using my 6br dies and my 243 die for my sizing ,, if I get sick of changing I will be looking at custom dies

I get the pinching pennies way of thinking, I'll sometimes pinch so hard it make Lincoln cry. That said, if you are planning on doing some serious shooting, you can't afford to NOT have a f/l Whidden sizer. I have several custom sizers at $200.00+ a pop and they are very good dies, don't get me wrong. But they are not 2+ times better than a Whidden die. Go on there web site and see just how affordable they really are.
I hope this helps,
