6BRA - ?

Well my 6BRA barrel is on and I fire formed 60 cases with 30.gr of Varget, accuracy was good for a fire form load.

This is a 600yd BR rifle, I dont have access to custom bullets unfortunately so its usually 105 Hybrids or VLDs. My reamer has a .268" neck and my loaded rounds are 0.2655" - I will skim the cases a little again after their first full size firing.

The question now for load development is Varget or H4895?

I appreciate that ultimately the barrel will tell me what powder it likes but these are readily available and I would like to try one or both. Im just wondering if this case has shown a particular preference for either powder over the other?

Some of the threads Ive read suggest H4895 but then I find other doing well with Varget.

So far H4895 is has shot very well for me , my friend who chambered his at same time is shooting Varget with good results. It would be a good idea to test both just to see what your barrel likes.

Rushty, I have a question. If the BRA appears to like H4895, do you think you could get "same or similar" using either IMR 8208XBR or AR-Comp? They both are right in the same burn rate range as H4895..

All the records set except one has been H4895. The other was RL15. My advice to my customers is H4895 in cold climates and Rl15 in warmer more stable climates. I do think rl15 may be the most accurate powder but AGGs are what we are after and rl15 can blow up on you if temps change. H4895 is the agging powder IMO. Varget has rarely ever been the most accurate powder IME.

They will shoot those powders well, some of my customers have sent me groups and ladder test results. You may find a barrel that prefers them. But at this point the VAST majority of BRAs are running H4895.

To be honest I don't know I haven't looked at either powders before I've stuck with mainstream (H4895 and Varget) and had good enough results to not look any further..

I'm seeing excellent accuracy with RL15 and H4895, to the point where I can't really distinguish the difference. My 30" 1:8 twist Krieger likes 30.6gr of H4895 with 105gr VLDs and 31.4gr of RL15 with Berger 108gr BTs. Both loads and bullets slightly jammed and they shoot outstanding.

I had been previously working with Varget as I believed that given the longer bearing surface and slightly heavier bullet. I was seeing some results that were good, but I thought based on how my dasher was shooting this bullet, I knew I could get better results. I was getting some really good groups with Varget/108 combo. Some questionable fliers so I wanted to flip over to H4895. To this point, I think the H4895 is giving more consistent results.
