6BRA what would you do?

Sheldon,

It could vary some but I see a lot more change with varget. Just this week I’ve shot it in cool weather 57degrees and fairly warm weather 82 degrees same day. There was over a 40 FPS change in velocity.

With that kind of temperature shift what would you expect h4895 to change?

As I said, I shoot matches year around, and for my location that means anything from sub freezing temps to 95, so yeah I've shot in those temps and always chronograph before matches. I use the freezer method to look at things when the ambient temp does not allow a cold ammo test. Varget and H4350, are all I've used since I've been competing, now H4895 with the BRA. I've seen some double based powders be damn stable in a certain window and then the bottom drops out below a certain temp, or an incredible spike above a certain temp. Those early experiences drove me in the direction of Varget and H4350. Temps are about to drop substantially here in the next couple of months and I've got a few more matches so I'm curious to see how the H4895 holds up in the winter. My load has held at 2905 on the button the whole summer, so I'll know for sure here soon. I even made up a night time coyote rig out of a BRA to run this winter and I'm running 31.5 Varget in it with 85s and I'll be sure to check it to see how close it holds to its current 3080 when the snow starts flying.

I'm not arguing, just putting my experiences out there as well. It does not surprise me in the least that we can have experiences on the opposite end of the spectrum. One thing I've learned over the years in this sport is that sometimes, monkey see, monkey do, doesn't always work out well and don't try to fight it when it doesn't.(Wow, 3x negative) Anyway, even though I'm not a br shooter, I've got mad respect for this crowd and the accuracy boundaries you all push here. The br crowd sets the accuracy trends in the shooting sports and I always look for ways to translate that into the field type matches and shooting that I do.

I believe cooling cartridges is not the same as natural temperature. As soon as a cooled cartridge is taken out, it begins to sweat. Just like your glasses do in the winter when you come inside to warm temps.

I tested this way years ago with a Dasher and the velocities weren't the same as when natural temps occured. Matt
