6Br with Precision Shooters powder?

Has anybody started using Precision powder in their 6br in lieu of Varget? Once my container shows up in the mail I plan on experimenting with it.

I haven't in a 6BR yet, but I do have a friend that does. He is getting pretty good results with 105 class bullets. He's loading to about the same weight as I did when using Varget in the BR, 29.7-30.3. The speed will be about 30FPS slower with SWP at the same charge weight, so keep that in mind. It has given me the best results out of the 6 powders I experimented with.

I had good results using SW precision powder. Same load as Varget but got a little more speed.
SW should give you good results in the 6 BR.

I use it in mine, works very well. I have never used Varget in it so I have no comparison info ,I just know I get great results with it.

From 29.5 to 30.4 swp does great in my 6br. Not as much speed as I would like to have. Low 2700 fps. That's with 105 barts

You are talking Shooters' World Precision powder. I have tested Shooters' World Match Rifle powder in BRA. Worked great.

I started using it exclusively for a new 6BR build because I'm really sick and tired of trying to source Varget...again. I started experimenting with it in 308 and 223 a few months back and got consistently lower SD's with SW-P vs. Varget using similar grain weights in both of those calibers. The kernels seem to settle lower in the case than Varget so those looking to fit more powder in a case might look at SW Precision vs going to a faster powder like H4895 which causes cycling issues in my service rifle with 80 grain bullets which was another reason to find a Varget substitute. Out of my new Kreiger 29" 6BR medium palma barrel I found a node at 2821 fps with 30.3 grains of SW-P under a Berger 105gr hybrid. The two best groups and SD's with some cursory seating depth tests were jamming .005 and jumping .030. I'm going to go with the .030 jump call the load development done and start putting some time behind the rifle with sling. I have also converted my service rifle 223 loading over to SW-P and do not intend to look back. Any variation on target is likely me holding the rifle at this point anyway. So, I'd say; pick up a jug and give it a try...but don't tell anybody if it works so it stays on the shelf

It's a very nice plain-Jane single based extruded powder. We've had it in Europe for a long time as Lovex SO-62 (it originates from Explosia a.s. in the Semtin industrial area of the Czech Republic and this company's canister propellants are branded as 'Lovex' over here. There are other grades from the Explosia manufactured range that SW hasn't picked up as yet, so its range is smaller than Lovex's.)

It used to be available at one time in the US under the name of Accurate Arms-4064 back in the days when Accurate Arms was a standalone enterprise. When Western Powders bought AA out, the new management ditched the Explosia products and the current Accurate-4064 product is made by General Dynamics in Quebec Province, Canada (which also makes most IMR rifle powders for marketing and sales by Hodgdon).

The old '4064' moniker was I always thought a good one as it conformed closely to the old Dupont Corporation's US manufactured IMR-4064 in terms of applications, charges and performance, amnd was also as useful and flexible as that American staple. Better in some ways as it is shorter cut so you can get more into small cases like the BRs.

One possible downside compared to VarGet is that of temperature stability. It's rarely an issue where I live in the UK as we don't see vast temperature swings, but I've yet to see anyone comment on it in its US SW Precision reincarnation.

There's another older thread somewhere on the AS Forum about this powder in 6BR and several satisfied responses on its use there too.

So does mine. I use 8208XBR in 308 with 155 Bergers, 223 in a bunch of different loads, and 6BR with 105s.

It is good to hear Shooters World is working well for people as it will free up more of Varget and other powders for us

Don't be confused....just because I use Shooters World Precision does not mean I don't own a whole bunch of that Varget you seek .

I quit using Varget 12 years ago. In my 6br I'm running IMR4895, and that's all this barrel will see, same lot also. I will be giving SW powder a go in a couple other cartridges and it may end up in my next 6br. That's why I'm following this thread.

I have switched to SWP from varget in my Palma gun so I can save the varget for my brx. In the 308 it gives me the same velocity with the same charge and shoots within 2” of varget at 1k off a rest and that could of something else as the groups were shot on different days. I can’t speak of temp stability yet because it’s summer from March to October down here. I may give it a try in my f class brx when breaking in the new barrel

Ok, so now a couple of years has gone by and I am still loving my SW Precision and Match powders in 6BR, 6.5 CM, and 308 with 155's.

Precision is the only one I use and I am very happy with the results.
It has been pretty much interchangeable with Varget loads.
The target is 6BR and 108 Berger at 100 yards on a bipod.

I’ve been really impressed with it for my Palma loads but I have to be careful shooting it on e targets on cold days at 1000 yards cause it’s pretty unstable although it doesn’t seem to effect the accuracy or SD of the load. Of course I’m about out of it, haven’t found any more in over a year and have been playing around with imr4166 as another substitute

I shot Lovex PR most of last year with better then good results.
I tried 4166 as I ran low on PR. 4166 shot great in my cat in the
lower node. It got way to peaky for me on top. It's much faster
then PR. Going to work with a new lot of AA-4064. it's supposed
to be a tad slower then IMR-4064 and the kernal structure of AA
is smaller then IMR. Maybe real close to Reloder 15. WE will see.

I've been shooting 30.7 gr SW Precision Rifle over 95 gr Bib flat base bullets in my 6br. Seated .006 off the lands. 205m primers. I'm getting 2768 fps average. 8 Twist Bartlein barrel. I've gone up as high as 31.6 gr, but groups opened up. Velocity was in the high 2980s. No pressure signs.

S062 has fairly high temperature sensitivity using it with 223 and 308. I would be worried about using S062/PR for 6BR if match conditions had a 20 F degree change during the day.

Addendum: I have now tested S062 with 6BR cartridges, and it shows minimal temperature sensitivity between 37F (3C) and 97F (36C). I am posting a separate thread on 6BR powder temperature sensitivity.
