6BR bullet weights..???

Ive got a passel of 105-107 grain slugs to use in my 6mmBR but I read the other day that some guy ( forgive me for forgetting his name) thats a competition shooter uses say 85 or so rain slugs for 100yd shooting...and so on ( might even have been lighter than 85 for 100yd shooting) and progressed to heavier bullets for longer distances..

So what about it? Ive got 55 and 60 grain bullets along with 90 and 105 grain bullets. Can I use the lighter slugs for paper and maybe even for a groundhog or two without any sort of problems?

A lot depends on the twist you have, a fast twist usually will group the light weight bullets pretty good, but that also depends on if the rifle really likes em or not..
Seems most of the 100 yd shooters use 66 ish grain bullets with a 14 twist...
The only way to be sure is to shoot em and see.....

My barrel is a 1:8 twist. Mainly for heavier slugs but as you say...shooting is the only tried and true method to figuring it all out. I'll just load up a box of each weight and after I get it all sighted in...try them and see whats what.

Thanks!

Sully,

I have several 6mmBR rifles, mostly 7.5' and 8' twist configurations.

The 8 twist barrels have been able to shoot Berger 70s, 88s, 90s, 105s, and 108s accurately, and reliably.

Although we have never tested anything under 70 grns. in our 8" twist barrels, you may be surprised wour barrel might shine with lower weight projetiles.

By all means, do let us know how it works.

Andy
