6br and 80g FB Bergers

I have an 8 twist .104 free bore 6br and I picked up some 80g bergers to play around with. Just wanting to get an idea of the seating detph you guys are having success with these bullets. I am looking for a starting point.

The 80gr berger shoots real well in my 6br.
I take a dummy case and bullet color the bullet with a sharpie or blue dichem
Find the length that the bullet is just touching the lands to leave a slight mark
Then I start testing 3 rounds at each length going deeper into the lands .005 at a time.
Every barrel is different but you should find what it likes pretty quickly

if its a FB bullet
measure your case oal length your bullet oal length .. add them together.. then subtract .243... its a good place to start...
i think my ogv. is 1.815 '?'

I use a Stoney point oal gauge to get a measurement to the lands. I was just wondering if these bullets show a tendencies towards being jump or jammed. I like to see what others are having success with amd tryimg something close to that before making up something myself.

I shoot them in two different 6brdx rifles and one likes .010 jump and one likes .015 jam.

Thanks jk,
I was excited to find hem at my local shooting store. I think I wil start with a jump since they are not vld's and a bit closer to a hybrid. And then adjust from there. I here and read that they are very accurate.

I've had 3 different BRs at one time or another. None of them really liked a jump with the 80s. They ranged from just touching to barely leave a mark to .015 in

Just my experience

When I shot them in my 8-twist, I loaded them long enough that they were all seated "a bit" when chambered. I did this because when I measured several handfuls of bullets, the BTO measurement was off by several thousands. I loaded so the shortest bullets would just touch the lands, the longer ones were seated a little deeper on closing the bolt. My last 3-shot group before switching to a 14-twist was 0.077 at 100 yards. They will shoot!

They definitely shoot. The 6br 12 twist I have now was the most accurate shooting thing I had. Until I finally went to a full race ppc

They will shoot.

I will be running them in an 8 twist and only have varget as a suitable powder to try. I was tying to locate some h 4895 locally but no luck. What powders are you guys having luck with the 80g.

I had good luck with BLC-2, H322, Varget, Benchmark, CFE-223, etc., but they got too hard to find. I got a GREAT deal on a couple 8-lb kegs of IMR 8208-XBR and it rocks. that was the powder for my .077 3-shot group. It just didn't matter that much to my barrel what it was powered with; the 80s just plain worked!

I have shot these in several calibers, they shot tiny, tiny groups with the bullets touching. I split a case neck, insert the bullet, close the bolt, so my numbers were a slight jam length.

Hey guys thanks for the input and help. I ran some varget with the 80g Bergers and it shoting in the twos pretty easy. I went .005 off to start and then went back an tried different depths. I end up at the lands, that shot best. Low twos for 3 shots.

On my Savage LRPV 80gr Berger bullets just touch the rifling as measured with a Hornady guage. Varget worked the best for my rifle, with 32 gr and 450 CCI primers. Always start loads low and work up, might not work with your rifle. Jeff
