6BR, 6BRA, or 6 Dasher for 600 yd?

I bought a new savage rifle to build a 6BR based budget build for shooting steel and paper targets from 300-600 yd. I was set on getting a Shilen or Criterion prefit in 6BRA from Northland Shooters Supply (can't beat their prices) but they don't offer 6BRA as a chamber option. They both have 6BR and 6 Dasher though. I plan on shooting the heavies (105-110 grain) in it. I wanted the higher velocity than the 6BR to determine hits on steel easier but was shying away from the Dasher because I keep hearing how it's on the limit for optimum case capacity. Would I notice a difference on impacts on steel with the Dasher over 6BR? Would there be any loss of easy tuneability or accuracy with the Dasher? Would the 6BRA be worth spending a couple hundred more by getting one done by a gunsmith? Thank you for any advice.

6BR.
1. Load 30 grains of varget/shooters world precision/4166/RL15/203b/whatever else you may have laying around in that burn rate with whatever primer you got.
2. Put a 105 hybrid in there 0.030 off the lands.
3. ????
4. Profit.

The dasher owns plenty of records at 600 and 1000. There are a few who think it is overbore.....

In the end, for banging steel, you will likely not notice the difference between any of the three cartridges you mention.

I have a BR and three dashers.

Well...... the dasher won and I don’t want to take anything way from the winner. But when the 30 to 40 mph winds came in on target 3 of HG it went from a shooting match to one of survival. Relays 1 and 2 were decimated. If the winds would have stayed in the 15 to 25 mph range that we were shooting in it very well could have been a different story.

Clay, I believe @Jason Boersma was actually shooting his brandy new 300 in heavy, he can correct me if I'm wrong. It went together really late, and didn't get put on the equipment list in time if I'm thinking straight. And Bart ain't kidding, we actually stopped sighter periods due to clay pigeons blowing off the bank. By the time we got to target 3 for heavy, on relays 1 and 2, the only shooter I know of to survive bench 2 through 6 (1 went unused) was Seth shooting a 30 cal. It was interesting to say the least.

OP, just pick one and put in the effort to make good brass. Get the die to chamber fit right, and do your work tuning it.

I'd vote for a 6br. As Tom said, good brass and equipment will get you where you're going.
And as mentioned, enough freebore on the reamer to get those 105ish grain bullets in the lands to out of the lands while keeping the boattail in the neck. .105-.120 freebore should do that for you.

Webpage says they will use your reamer for Criterion barrels. I called and asked about the Shilen barrels, Shilen will NOT use a customer's reamer.

Copy that, I wasn't there and just went off the info posted on the web.
When I looked at the DQ's (over 20 if I recall correctly) I figured the big guns might just show strong in that wind. However it didn't turn out that way.
Any of the three (BR, BRA, Dasher) will get it done.

Edit
Unless of course you are correct about Jason......
Tom, how is your 300 wiz bang coming along?
I have a 300 WSM, and shoot it from time to time, just not well enough to get to the podium.

I'm going through a little burn out right now. Don't get me wrong, I still shoot every weekend, but hunting guns the past couple weekends. I've been helping Roy with the stupid 6.5, and another friend with a 6 bullet. I haven't had the 30 out since spring, it's become more on my mind after that nationals though!

I am a big fan of the 6BRAI! BUT, if I were starting out at 600 yard BR, I would definitely recommend the straight 6 BR, no turn neck. I started out at 600 with a straight 6BR in 2004, shot them for years with good success. Samuel Hall
