6 Dasher

I would like to chamber a 243 sporter barrel in either 6mm BR or improved (BRX, Dasher). The barrel length will be 24 inches. Not a bench or competition gun.

Are there reasons NOT to chamber in 6mm Dasher? Downsides vs 6mm BR?

Starting from scratch, really look at the br-dx my friend. I have been treated very well by dashers. I chambered a DX last fall, and won't go back.

What makes you like the DX over the dasher? Is it the fire forming?

Trying to make a decision on the dasher vs the BRX's and that is all that I have been able to find. I don't care so much about fireforming so I am seriously thinking dasher right now.

Currently I have a straight BR but thinking about a new barrel that is a dasher installed.

I don't understand a statement like this,....Judd fireforming the Dasher or the Brx is equal, there both realitivily easy to ff, I think Tom's answer would be a little more efficient of a case, I have a new BRDX ream and can't wait to use it on my new barrel.

The OP was 6BR vs Dasher for non-comp. I've shot years worth of Dasher, and it is an amazing cartridge, but the only reason I ever went to the Dasher was to gain some edge over my friends in a match. If you are not shooting in a match what could any of the 6BR improved cartridges offer you that a straight 6 BR can not?

A edge on wind bucking from 600 to 1000 yards, I shoot a lot at 1000 and beyond and not in compititons and the little br is just too small in the wind but the dasher or brx will get it done, I also compete at 1000 yard br and have seen some amazing groups with the straight 6br but not when the wind starts.

Sorry for the 4x quotes. ):, but if I was headed to the Dakotas for 3 days of prairie dog shooting, would I rather take 3,000 rounds of straight 6 BR or 6 Dasher? I'm not tryin to debate if the Dasher or BR* offers some advantage over the straight 6BR, but if your not competing with it and just having pure fun is it worth it? The answer is probably more personal than anything. Just offering a perspective from my POV...if it was not being scored I would shoot the straight 6BR all day over the Dasher.

LOL well lets make it 5 quotes I see your point of view my friend and I like shooting long so I would opt for the improved probably but for shorter stuff I probably would use my std. 6br or even my 6ppc, best of luck to ya

6 BR Brass grows fast.
With the 6 BR you are going to be doing a lot of
brass trimming. They stretch fast.
The 40 degree shoulder of the Dasher lets you
forget about trimming, especially if you are just
dogging and no competitions.

That is impressive. I know several guys who tell me the dasher or the BRX but do one of them don't do the straight BR again. That is exactly why I asked.

The record HERE is 3.474"/100, shot by Mr. Anderson in 2008. These are barely under that, and I PICKED my conditions. "The small one" May or may not happen, but I'm excited about the consistency, potential agging ability this baby is showing. I guess here in about 8 days we're gonna find out!

I know that but I have been rooting for you and Leo for a couple years now if you haven't noticed, I would love to have a world record but I just don't have the time I need to dedicate to it right now, I am coming blind unless I get some trigger time in this Wed. if not I am loading 32.5 grains of 4895 and seating long and hope I get a little time Fri. before dark to get lucky with something, probably won't but I come to shoot and have fun and dad nabbit I am gonna be there rain or shine, ready or not, maybe by June I will have my new build humming along

Hey Derek,
I had high hopes of having three new rifles ready for the first shoot, but because of problems out of my control I will be there but not with anything new, I had my old rifle tore down and the paint stripped so I could redo it and sell it but I will be putting it back together and shooting it, I don't have time to work up a load and only have about 500 hybrids left over from last year so I am saving them for the 11lb. rifle I will just load and shoot the 105 vld's and hope for the best I guess, hope yours does well for you again this year.
