6 Dasher vs 6GT

I have two 6mm GT and haven’t shot either one yet. Waiting on a McMillan stock I ordered for one and looking for a stock for the other build. It’s built on a Remington 600. Looks like it might end up in a wood stock before its over.

lots of 6.5 creedmore guys are switching to GT in my area

the deal killer for me is no Lapua or Peterson brass

So, since I don’t already have dies for anything, I’m just really drawn to the attributes of the GT for benchrest accuracy at mid-to-long range.

Any thoughts? Am I missing something?

I currently shoot 2 GT's and shoot a BRX for 600 and 1k BR.
There isnt a measurable difference accuracy wise at those distances that I can detect ? They are both capable of MOA (and better) accuracy at those ranges.
I was going to rechamber one of my 1K rifles to 6GT to wring it out on an apples to apples comparison, but the way they keep cancelling matches @ CRC , I doubt I'll bother shooting this year.

I have been shooting a Dasher for 2 yrs as a prone 600yd gun, they shoot great. I had problems with the Norma, brass would not hold up, primer pockets were loose after 2 firings. Lapua has been great, I shoot 105hybrids and easily get 3000fps, 32.0 Varget.
I also have a PRS rifle in 6x47L, which shoots good, but was thinking to change it to a 6BR and for 600yd and closer matches.....A PRS rifle in 6GT rifle is being built now and between the family of 6BR, 6Dasher and 6GT it would seem like bases are covered without burning more powder than required to get 3000fps.

Having both, I don't think the GT offers a huge performance advantage over the Dasher. That being said, I'm switching to the GT for this season (if we have one). Mostly due to cheaper
brass (Hornady/ GAP), no mag kits, and general ease of handling around the bench with arthritic fingers.

I too looked at the 6GT and decided against it. After being involved in several different types of shooting I'm convinced of several constants. You have to have good bullets, barrels and BRASS. I don't want any cartridge that I can't buy Lapua brass for. Even though many of the other brands have improved in recent years I doubt they're there yet. In these types of cartridges a BR or one of it's derivatives is probably the correct choice, IMHO a 6X47 has too much capacity to maintain tune over a broad temp range, in other words. Shoot one of the offerings the BR guys shoot because they'll know.

Out of interest how many people shoot the 6x44 and the rough popularity of it? it is very similar to the 6 GT and seems to have good potential, what bullets and velocities are people getting with the 6x44?

I have a 6GT ackley basically a long dasher with a long neck or short 6x47. Gives a person ability to shoot 4350 burn rate powders and ability to shoot the 115 bullets faster than a dasher. I like both will be interesting to see if the alfa brass will hold up.

Don't sell the Dasher short for 1000 yards. Dasher and BRAI are winning 1000 yard Nationals for the past several years. The short neck is no problem. A BRDX and BRX have a slightly longer neck if that is what you want.
Tell em Birddog, birddog eventually talked me into a dasher. An absolute beast of a cartridge, accuracy is off the chart. I've shot several sub moa groups @600 & 1000 yds. I don't see a problem with the neck, at all. The dasher is a shooter, and it seems that fireforming or hydroforming lapua brass is the way to go. I've shot the alpha brass. Alpha brass is as consistent as alpha claims but it does not have the same capacity. I've been shooting RL16 and my powder charge I'm shooting in the lapua will not fit in the alpha.

Looking at having my 6 Norma Dasher chambered to 6 GT once the leade is gone on the Dasher....I am curious as to the life of Norma Dasher brass....I shoot 105gr to 109gr hybrids, 32.5-32.8 of Varget 34.5+ with RL 16, and have 4-8 loading's with out problem....I've heard about the poor case life, are these on stompin loads? Of course, DO NOT USE THESE LOADS IN YOUR RIFLE! I'm only shooting steel at up to 600 yards, but it does knock them over (6"x 10"-1/2"). Thinking the 6 gt might do what I need with semi mild loads...thoughts? rsbhunter

Like I said, looking for a fix to a barrel that has seen it's leade and throat go....a 6gt would clean up chamber and leade without cutting back and threading. Now, I'm not a br shooter, just informal competition. Don't think I would go 6 GT from the start, though Alpha believes in it enough to make the brass, as well as Hornady....not a cheap investment on their part.....plus, 6br and 243 would do what 99.9 percent of use have to do, just fun to have options....rsbhunter

6GT, a solution to a problem that does not exist.

This. The only benefit a GT has over any of the BR variants is mag kits in the PRS world. Benchrest, I just don't see how it can come close to a dasher or ackley.

I have a GT for my PRS rifle, and its only because of the mag kits.

Question - please expand on why/how the 6GT can't come close to Dasher or 6BR AI. Are you referring to accuracy/precision of the cartridges, and if so then what is the difference that you have experienced and possible reason for it?

I have been waiting to see how accuracy of 6GT compared to Dasher. Thanks

It's pretty much the same, only a little faster. Here's my GT at 100 yds.
