6 dasher reamer?

I received an email with the PTG reamer specs. .105 freebore and 0.272 neck. If I want to run Lapua brass and 105 hybrids, will I need to turn necks? Also, from the specs I mention, what are you guys thoughts on it?

For the Hybrids... I would probably run more... . 140 or more. I got a henrikesen with same case length at 1.555 and a FB of .136 and hybrids need more. I lenghtened with a UNI throater and don't have an exact number. I'm guessing I'm .020 deeper

FYI there are a few of these brand new 6 Dasher(Rem) PTG finish reamers listed on Ebay for $66. Ordered one for myself.

You won't need to turn necks. Freebore is very common and will work fine but does NOT get the neck/shoulder junction clear of the bearing surface of a 105 hybrid. It will give you room to chase the lands though.

Base diameter of .4708 is a bit small, you will need to use a tighter Harrell's die like a D4 for sizing or you will get clickers.

You won’t have to turn necks with this reamer as it actually shows a .273” neck diameter.. The .200” line of .4708” is on the smaller side and as recommended above will probably need something like the Harrell’s D4.

I did some measuring on the base of some brass...and rounded to the nearest .0005"...
6mm Br Lapua brass (old gold box)-.469"
7mm Br Remington brass-.4685"
6mm Dasher Norma brass-.4680"

In my case, buying this reamer provided me some options...

Given the length on the Norma Dasher brass, I could stuff the reamer in another .050" and try to further "improve" the case and then not have to trim them down about .045". But, fire form vs. trimming, we'll see. Probably just end up trimming...it's simpler!

I have an old 22 BR with the Remington chamber (why I have 7mm BR brass), so now my search for brass that will fit that chamber may have ended, though forming will be required, it saves me from buying another reamer before that barrel is shot out.

Just my thinking, which is often wrong. Be safe , Kevin.

Here is the one we use and I've used it on my gun. Had no issues with it.

Even made a ammunition pressure test barrel for one of the ammo makers. They said every time they shoot that barrel all they could do was smile. So one of the ballistic lab guys had to build a 6 Dasher.

Later, Frank

Never had a reamer built, if want to use that print, Frank, would I send JGS that spec sheet and ask them to build it? I’d be looking at around $175?

Just a heads up that reamer spec is .2705 neck which is on the tight side for a no turn neck, especially if you run it as a field gun in adverse conditions. Would be well suited to a "skim" pass turning the necks to clean them up without removing much material.

A loaded round with unfired/unturned Norma brass runs right at .270 +/-. You can't use that "no turn" in a .2705 reamed chamber neck. .272 is common neck size.

I recently did up a PTG reamer. Its a .272nk and .150fb with a bore rider throat. This is doing very well with lapua blue box fireforming and hydroformed with 105 hybrids, rdfs and barts gungnirs
