6 Dasher load development

Defiance Ruckus action, Manners stock, TT Diamond trigger, MTU Bartlein barrel, 7 1/2 twist. Alpha Brass, Varget, CCI 400 or 450 primers, Berger 105 Hybrids

I am going to try to do some load development on my newer rifle (have not shot it that much). Any advice on BTO, starting powder charge? I have tried a few 32.2 grain charges. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

CCI 450, start .002 off the lands and start backing up .002 at a time until 2 shots touch at 200…. Then find out how wide the window is, should be about .006 wide.

Seat the longest of those then shoot a few powder charges looking for a common point of impact. That part works at 100 or 1000 yards.

I don’t know much of anyone that doesn’t shoot somewhere in the 32.2 neighborhood in Lapua brass. Not sure how the Alpha compares.

Keep the barrel clean.

I’m new to Dasher and still tinkering with it, my current load shoots pretty well considering I still need to test primers, bushings, and fine tune the seating depth.
Tikka action
Lilja 4 groove
Alpha brass
Fed 205
Berger 105 VLD at + .005
Varget 32.2 gr.
That load is Amazing to me ?
I have a 2 Norma Dasher's they shot well in matches. Brux 30" 1-7.5 Barrels and I can't shoot 32grs. of Varget?
Good for you.

In my rifles Varget and a CCI-450 is a match made in heaven. I am running 32.5 gr of Varget in Lapua brass. 105 VLD seated .015 into the rifling. Several friends run the same exact load. Start at 31.0 grains and work up your load. Sorry, no experience with Alpha brass. Always error on the side of caution. Good luck and keep us posted.

I have been shooting Barts Hammers with cci450/varget 32.2

I have a new barrel being chambered. I’ll check how it shoots once I get it back from the gunsmith.

I have been selling some calibers so I’m down to just my dasher now for precision shooting. (Didn’t realize how much goes along with each caliber, dies, brass, bullets. I’m simplifying)

Pick a charge, seat a bullet in a a dummy round so you get a square mark from the lands, shot a group and then seat the bullet .003 deeper in the case shoot another group and so on backing the bullet into the case. When a group is one hole reshoot it and if its 1 hole again do the same thing next say. Still one hole you have a good spot. Now add and subract powder .1 gr see if it helps or not. I do this with 2 shot groups. When I am satisfied I verify with 4 shot groups, back to back. ALL done with flags or your wasting your time and components. Now if you have a tuner when that load starts to go awsy from you a bump ot two either in or out will normally put you back in tune. Important thing is to have a system, don't just stab in the dark here and there. I do not use the tuner to get a load.

I just got myself a dasher curtesy of Brad Walker. It shoots good. I settled on the 80g berger/ Ts 15.5. My goal with this bullet was to find a higher velocity than what I could muster with Br or Bra. I found I could load up to 36g of charge but it shot good at 34g. At 3300 fps. I'm pretty pleased with that. If a little more speed can help things I found what I was looking for. Iv shot 100rds with the 80s and have reverified my load. It hammers now. sub quarter groups at 100.
I'm wanting to shoot half inch group at 300 this weekend. If it does. I'll be buying more bullets for sure.

Clay, (Mulligan) has helped me with a phone call and some advice where to start. I am on my way back home from the range, taking you all's advice and think I have something promising. Need to work on neck tension next as these did not use a mandrel, just Whidden sizing die. I have a few parts on order. 5 shot group at 100 at Ben Avery range in Phoenix.

31.7 Varget
CCI 450
Berger 105 hybrid
Alpha brass
