Load Development

Hi All
I'm starting some load development for my 6mm br, I'm using lapua brass and varget powder and hornady 105 Amax do i work out my powder load first and then the best OAL or find the best OAL and then develope the powder.
anybody have any Ideas
regards
Andy (dully1963) :-\

Andy,
The best part of the 6mmBR is that it is reliably consistent in what it likes to digest in regard to loads. With 105 gr. +/- bullets load 29.0 gr. of Varget and work your way up to 30.3 gr slowly and seat them about 5 thousandths off and you will shoot little bitty groups. Once you find the one you like, then you can tinker with OAL all you want to shrink them even farther. 30.2 gr. of Varget seated .005 off works great for me with 105 gr. A-max, you may find different results. As always, work all loads up slowly watching for pressure signs.

Good luck and have fun,
Bob

What is the barrel length and twist? Will this be a hunting rifle or a paper puncher? Target distances? WD

Always start in the lands with a lower powder charge and work up in about .2 grains increments untill you find a good load are see pressure. If pressure shows first change one component only and stare over until you find a good group are decent group and then start changing seating out of the lands until you find that sweet spot. The 6BR is a great round to load for very foegiving and you will find a lot of loads will usualy shoot in the same gun. Hope this helps and have fun shooting a great round.
