6 Dasher Alpha Brass Neck Diameter

Thanks for the chat @ Bill Norris
I dug out some old Lapua br brass with a zillion firings and made my own Dasher brass.
There not perfect but maybe good enough to run a comparison pressure ladder.
I took my farmboy Dasher brass out this morning for a re run, lo and behold Lapua brass handled the pressure up to 33.0 grains @ 2920 without bolt lift issues.
I guess I’ll be moving forward with Lapua brass.

Hmmm... I have a brand new 28" Dasher barrel screwed on to my BR setup right now..

I have been shooting 6BR for years and decided to try a Dasher.

Got 200pc of Alpha brass i was about to load up but damn I'm second guessing that. I have tons of new and fired Lapua BR brass... your making me want to convert 100 to play with more and more....

I didnt build a Dasher to shoot BR speeds, all else being equal. My 28" 6BR's shoot 105 Hybrids @ 2860 all day with 30.2gr varget no pressure signs...

All you can do is give it a try, other guys haven’t seen pressure issues.

True. I've read multiple reports on 2 different forums of guys hitting pressure at BR speeds with alpha brass in their Dasher...

Ill do a side by side same loads with Alpha and Lapua and see what shakes out

Somewhat suprised to hear of the troubles with the Alpha Dasher brass. I am on my 9th firing with zero issues. 32.5 Varget CCI 450 12K jam shooting a Weber 103. Ave.2996 ES-10. I ran up to 32.9 with no issues, but accuracy was best at 32.5. The 6ppc brass I have found is also very high quality. Glad to see this stuff being made in the U.S.A.
Best of luck .....I hope things get sorted out for you.

Regards
Rick

If I could get anywhere close to this I’d be pleased but that’s not the case with my N140. I’ll be trying some different powder and bullet combinations as well.
I just won’t live long enough to figure out all the why’s and what if’s.

I have to respect the process and test one thing at a time, I only a couple days a week to tinker with this stuff. I also had two birthdays this week and a bra to put together and tune for a season that starts in two weeks.
No pressure. lol

Shot 50rd today.

31.3gr Varget
107 smk
Slight jam
Virgin alpha

28" 7 twist PVA Osprey 1.2"
Single shot TL3
Fully bedded br stock
SIDHE BR Evo trigger

2899
SD 6

After 25rd it started tightening up nicely. Not to shabby for first time shooting Dasher. Look forward to tuning and load.

First time shooting the SIDHE trigger and I love it. Breaks like glass. No creep. Looking forward to getting some more rounds behind it.

A few 5 shot groups @ 100yd

Nicely done , I like your nice set up.
If I may ask about the radial expansion of the case, in particular the .200 line as well as the case shoulder junction ?
I noticed my cases were inclined to move forward a bit more than I’d care rather than radial, perhaps a second firing would change matters. IDk
To give you a few numbers ( without my notes in front of me )
From virgin to one firing. .005 from base to datum until .32.4 and then jumped another .002 for a total of .007
.200 line expanded about .002
Case shoulder expanded .002

Sorry no numbers for you. I already sized and loaded the 50pcs up for a second session today.

I do have some bushing numbers though if anyone is interested.

Loaded neck with 107smk is 0.268.
.266 bushing and 21st Century turning mandrel gave me 0.001-0.0015 neck tension which was a tad light..

I dropped down to a 0.265 bushing and 21st Turning mandrel which gave me exactly 0.002 neck tension.

Bumped shoulders 0.001

Gonna shoot 31.5, 32.00 and 32.5 today 0.01 off lands and see how thst does today and if I see pressure.

Little update on my second outing with Alpha brass..

I took the 50pc of 1x fired Alpha brass and sized it in my LE Wilson SS FL Bushing die. I tested bushings and a 266 bushing then my 21st Century 6mm turning mandrel gave me 0.001-0.0015 neck tension.. Tad lighter than I wanted. So I dropped in a 265 SAC bushing and then ran the brass in my 21st Turning mandrel and it gave me 0.002 neck tension like I wanted.

Tumbled the brass and chamfer/debur..

I then loaded up 10rd each 31.3, 31.6, 31.9, 32.2, 32.5

107smk
0.005 off lands

Wasn't shooting for accuracy, just wanted to check velocity and pressure. Was a super windy day and a loose backer was blowing around so I paid no attention to groups with the backer blowing around.. When I caught some lulls in the wind and the backer wasnt blowing around, shots were going through the same hole...

Here the numbers..

31.3 - 2869 SD 17.3
31.6 - 2909 SD 12.4
31.9 - 2933 SD 11.6
32.2 - 2955 SD 7.4
32.5 - 2980 SD 6.7

SD's half at the top end of the charge weights... Just started to get a slightly heavy bolt lift at 32.5gr... These 107smk have a long bearing surface. Puts them down in the case more than I would like. They are a great bullet to switch to when the throat starts wearing and you can load out longer..

Gonna load up some 105 Hybrids and play in that 32.3 - 32.7 range for next outing.

I have seen the same thing happen. I chambered a few dashers the guys were using alpha brass the reamer I was using was a .272 neck 105 FB
The loaded alpha brass was neck turned. But still had pressure issues early.
I gave one of the guys a few pieces of LAPUA brass. He could run it as hard as he wanted within reason and no Pressure signs.

After some research on this I ordered the apha team reamer. Took one of the barrels and chambered it with the new reamer.
Issues were all gone.

Not knowing what the difference between them I’m going to guess the body dimensions at the .200 line are smaller on the Alpha reamer ?
I’ve tested a couple different powders in the Alpha brass with slightly better results, I’ll pick up some capacity once these are formed so that may help also .
IDK the why’s of why not’s I just write down the numbers.
