6 Creedmoor reamer specs/freebore for 105 Hybrid

Guys would you mind sharing your reamer specs and freebore for your 6 Creed running 105 Hybrids. I need to get a reamer ordered this week.

I just went through the same thing trying to nail down a good freebore for the 105 Hybrids. I had originally ordered my reamer with a .183 freebore, but I was told that would be to long for the 105 hybrids. So I just went with a .104 fb. I'm still waiting on my reamer though.

I chambered with a PTG match reamer with 136 Freebore and .275 neck. Loading with Hornady 105 Match and to get to the lands put that bullet pretty far out of the neck. Finally found the best load was with a 35 thousand jump and 42 grains of IMR 4831. I'm not sure if the bullet likes the jump or just prefers being seated deeper in the case. Might give the PTG .275 neck and 106 Freebore a looking over. If I could just get that rifle to talk to me:rolleyes:.

.135fb .276 neck, no turn for 105s.
Interesting that you prefer the .276 neck Alex. My AO chambered barrel is .275 but my own personal reamer is .277. But then, I guess, whats in a .001?
My reamer is .183 freebore and the barrels it has done both shoot great with Hybrids, ELD-M and 107 SMK but all those bullets like some jump.

Mike Davis and I were trying to figure out what we needed in a 6mm Creedmoor reamer. We both shoot the Bang Steel match in Bland Virginia so we use magazines. That means COL of 2.800. I seated 105 Hybrids in three pieces of brass to that length and sent them to Dave Manson and told him we wanted the bullets to just touch the lands at that length. He suggested a .135 freebore and a .2745 neck diameter. The brass is necked down Lapua 6.5 Creedmoor brass. He is building us a reamer.

Had I not picked up this reamer, along with go & no-go gauges, I would have preferred a shorter freebore. My thinking was that the throat always grows some after the first 100 rounds or so.
Then I got to looking at a couple of my PD hunting rifles in 22-250. Both Weatherby SVM with Criterion (factory) barrels and both with that usual long throat Wby. is known for. One of those rifles has (and I know some will call BS) right at 4,000 rounds and will still hold sub MOA any day. It has accounted for more dead dogs than any other rifle I own. The throat looks better than one of my 6 Dasher barrels that has only 1,100 rounds. In fact, that Dasher barrel throat has moved so far out and the barrel cracked so badly that it is only good for a fire-form barrel now. Maybe longer throats help barrel life?

.001 in a neck is nothing, unless its too tight. I dont like less than .003" clearance on a no turn in 6mm and even more the bigger you go. Too close on neck clearance will cause accuracy to suffer, too loose will only work the neck a little more. If a guy wants .002" clearance you need to be turning, thats asking too much from brass and bullets makers and your next lot of bullet and brass you may only have .001". I also use .272 for no-turn stuff with blue box lapua br brass. Im not a fan of the newer .2705" no-turn neck.

Please excuse my ignorance, but where is the freebore measurement that everyone refers to measured from-to? Thanks

Yup, my wives rifle(top) has the .104fb, works very well for Hybrids, JLKs, VLDs. bottom rifle has a .136fb which would work as well, it does shoot JLKs very nicely.

Old thread but I have the same question. I'd like to understand the "why" associated with the recommendation. I can follow the neck dimension - well, I assume it goes something like .243 bullet diameter + 2 x .015 or thereabouts of brass neck thickness + 3 thou of clearance. How does one determine an ideal freebore dimension?

(Oh and does it make sense for me to purchase/own the reamer that will be used for my build?)

you either go by what others have used with success, send a seated round where you want it to the reamer maker, or use what your gunsmith has.
