6-284 freebore

I would just be guessing but assume you are talking about using the 110 Sierra.
Perhaps a call to them may help.I think I would definitely talk with the reamer maker and see what others choose most often.I have read a lot on this and a lot of knowledgeable shooters have been seating bullets into the neck not as deeply as was previously done, definitely never seating the pressure ring past the neck shoulder junction. What twist barrel have you chosen and what type of critter are you after? If you are thinking long range competition you realize that your barrel life will not be terrific. Not sure your goal here but a talk with a good gunsmith may also produce an answer to your question.Sorry I really can’t answer this with a specific # but as you know there are a lot of variables here.

thank you Mat, I’ve talked to the reamer maker and they suggested I go with the standard .050 since I already have a throater for 6mm to stretch it out if needed. It will be a long range shooter with a 1-7.5 bartlein. Thank you for your time

Glad you have the ability to lengthen the freebore if needed.I would think the .050” would be good for Varmint bullets but you may find if you want to use the longer match bullets you may need to be closer to .100” just my .02
Greg Tannel built my 6-284 8 twist Lilja and I honestly don’t remember my freebore spec.Ashamed to say I haven’t shot it yet, been fooling with my 6 Dasher and 6BR too much lately.Hope you get the chance to bust some distant varmints with it soon.

Between .060 and .100 will work pretty good. I set my reamer up for .080.

Guys, does anyone know what freebore I would need for 105-110 bullets in a 6-284
What action are you building it on and is it a short or long action?

If you're building this on something long action then OAL really won't matter but if you're building it on a short action then FB and allowable COAL is more of a concern.

My 6-284 is built on a SA Rem700 but mine only has a 12tw barrel so I don't shoot the heavies anyway but if I were to rebarrel it with a faster twist to shoot the heavies I'd also put a Wyatt's 3.100 Baney box in it too.

It is a Hall single feed so it wouldn’t be an issue with OAL
