6 creed with RL 16 & 115 vld

Started my load development on my 6 creed 24” barrel 7.5 twist. Shot 40.3-42.7gn of reloader 16 at 0.015” off the lands. At 42.7 I have a few slight ejector marks but no heavy bolt light at all. 41.2gn was shot twice. All 4 shot groups. Seems like the SD and groups were not correlating. Most groups had a higher Sd than I would like except 40.3 and 42.7gn which were single digits. I haven’t seen many guys running 42+ Grains with 115. Any suggestions?

I use sr primer brass, cci450s, with a 24" barrel id be looking around the low 3000s with rl16, and more like .006-.008 off the lands with the 115. Some barrels will run the 3100 node, I had a 26" Krieger than did.

Ok I ran out of ready to load brass. So I’m working on cleaning, resizing etc and will run another run from 39 grains on up and will run the vld .005” off to start. I think I have some CCI primers too that I will try

Also I’m running it with a suppressor. Should I shoot a few groups without to make sure the suppressor isn’t throwing something off?

I would run some 4831SC, or RL19 it you have it. I think going a bit slower on the burn rate might pay off with those heavy bullets.

I have LOTS of new and used 6Creed StarLine brass that uses SMALL RIFLE primers.. PM me if you're interested.. I'm interested in selling it.

FWIW, I too think R16 is too fast for the 6Creed's heavy bullets.

Should I try to run some 4831sc as well?
As stated above.. I would only change primers & seating first and run your test again. Primers make a big difference. RL16 is a great powder when using the correct primer. If your concerned about your SD’s, I wouldn’t expect to see it drop much below 6-7 with LRP brass.
How many rounds do you have on your barrel? It could be starting to speed up, causing erratic number until it settles.

I ran 40 rounds down the tube before I started any load development. I did a ladder test at 415 yards. Had 4 loads that had extremely low vertical dispersion however on the chronograph the velocities jumped 20fps each powder load. Other than that it was all star stepping up. I had 54 rounds before I started the ocw test. I now have 100 rounds down the barrel.

Ok. Probably settled in some by now. What method are you using to find your seating depth? Alex Wheeler posted a video that’s excellent for comparison. The VLD’s can be finicky if your off a couple of thousands. Alex & Rhovee do a lot of testing so referencing their loads would be where I’d start. I’ve helped some friends with the LRP brass and BR2’s always worked best.

If your Federals are 210 I would use those, or the 250 before a 215 ! With the hotter primers will have to adjust your powder to them .

I got ahold of some br2 primers. I really want to try around that 3100 FPS node. Seems like 42.4gn showed a node. Should I start back over at 39gn with the new primers or start at 41 Gn and work up?

It’s probably a good idea to run your ladder again. Your brass is fire formed now and your barrel has probably sped up so you will see some different results. I would go back to your 415 yard spot and run about 2.4% below rhovees data and go above it at about 1.2%. Id run 2 cases per charge weight in .3 grain increments and then bracket those 2 or 3 charge weights, that fall in the node, with .2 grain charge weight, 3 shot groups. I wouldn’t worry too much about your SD’s.. just worry about what the results tell you on paper. Then work on your seating in 2-3K increments in 3 shot groups. After you figure all that out, you can start shooting your 5 shot groups.
