6 creed with RL 16 & 115 vld

Well after extensive loads today I have no clue where to go. Feel very confident in my shooting rest and abilities but it seems like I can get a decent group. Try to tweak it and nothing changes. Seemed to be a decent node around 41 grains. Did the berger vld seating depth. Then tried fine tuning with 0.05” seating and 0.1 grain increments.

Can you explain In detail what you did with your charge weights and then your seating? Did you go to 400+ yds and do a ladder first or was it all at 100 yds?
What method are you using to find bullet touch? The Berger seating test is hit or miss Due to the large moves being made and 5K increments is a little course on seating depth with VLDs. Sometimes your seating window may only be 3K wide with this style bullet. You should only move the bullet 3K max at a time. I usually do -3, -6, -9, all the way out to -33 off of lands. If nothing looks good I go +3, +6, +9, until I hit +21 into lands. If this is a hunting rifle just stop at +15 in the lands so you don’t risk a chance of pulling a bullet when ejecting a loaded round.

In 4 different barrels of mine the 115 always shot best, just off touch . .003-004 off. Better than in and better than further off . Rl 16 is by far the most accurate powder I tested . This ladder was with 2 lots of bullets, hunting and target, and is 2 1/2 inches tall at 600. Did you try dropping down on your powder charge, and how far you shooting?

I shot 39 grains up to 42.7 grains of reloader 16 at 0.015” off the lands in .3 grain increments. The ladder test I originally did showed a flat spot on the target but the velocities were 30-35fps jumps. 41 grains showed about the only decent group. Took 41 grains and did the berger seating depth test. Shot .010”, .050”, .090”, and .130” off the lands. 0.010” shot the best. I took that and did .005”, .010”, .015”, .020”, and .025”. Almost every group was 1/2” or so. Took several of those groups and tried up or down .2-.3 grains just to see. Never saw a good round group. I was getting either vertical or horizontal spread. I could shoot the same load and would get a different result.

I’ve seen this before on a 300 win mag and switched powders and problems went away. I tried to make reloader 16 work. Spent way too much time, primers, powder, etc trying to get it to shoot.

Loaded up 3 round loads of H4831sc in .3gn increments starting at 43 grains. 43.3 shot a decent round group. 43.6 shot all three touching and 43.9 was another decent round group. Took 43.6 grains and moved seated the bullet .005”-.025”. 0.015” shot a 4 shot group then another 3 shot group to confirm both being under 1/10”. Last group was measured 0.076moa or 0.085”. Took it out to 500 yards and shot about an 1” group. Tried velocity was 3023fps
