6 BRX

I was wondering about the 6BRX. On the improved site, it says that it can use regular 6mmbr Norma dies. is that correct or am i reading it wrong? I'm gonna order the savage fclass in 6br and maybe was thinkin about pushing it a little further. this is my first 6br. but i want to be able to shoot a good ways rather than just 600 yards.

That's correct, you do use a standard Br fl die, because the BRX is just a BR with the shoulder blown forward you dont screw it down as far, but you will need to size the base of the case occasionally with a .308 fl die in a second step, or you could have Hornaday make you a custom die.

or would it just be easier to get a custom die made for it? or would that be dumb? I don't really want to have to buy a 308 die, but if i have to... Anyone make dies other than Hornady?

Josh:

You can use your 6mmBR full length die for the top end. You can buy a 6mmBR body die with the top reamed out.

I use a Redding 'S' type Bushing die with a .266 bushing. A Redding 6mmBR Body die with the top end removed. and A Redding custom Micrometer Seating die. I am shooting a .271 no neck turn neck chamber. I have over 100 customers using a simular setup. I made a powder funnel die for the 6mmBRX. I load on a Dillon 550 like it is a turrent loader. I measure my powder with a RCBS 1500 charge master. I can load over 100 rounds per hour. The only die I adjust after getting everything set is my bullet seating die. I have a 6mmBRX custom trim die for my Dillon case trimmer. I trim my necks back after about 3 firings and anneal after about every 8 reloads. I buy 300 new cases with each barrel. I fire form with 29.5-30.0 grains of Varget with the bullets jamed .010 into the rifling. With Lapua brass I can get 15-20 reloads per Brass life. My match loads are loaded with 32.4- 32.7 grains of Varget dependent on barrel likes.

Josh, I used the 6BR dies and a FL243 to size the bases each time, but fell in love with the case so I went with a custom die blank, a SS Newlon die. After asking a BRX shooter, a very talented one I might add, I was directed to a smith who had a resize reamer that was kind enough to allow me the use of it. The SS needs heat treatment, and Fireball in Maine did this for a fee of $40.00. The smith set the die where it will resize the whole neck, that had to have been meticulous work and worth every penny he charged. The rewards were grand with a rifle that is shooting fabulous.

I have a 6BRX built a Savage 2 Screw Target Action with kreiger barrel. It's an amazing shooter. The Savage F-Class is a beautiful gun, I have one, but be careful because some of the throats on those guns are a mile long. You will have to jump everything you shoot. They can be great shooters. You might be better off buying the savage 3 screw target action, a custom barrel, and a nice stock, and put it together your self, or have a gunsmith put it together for you. Have fun.

Josh11,

The 2 die set up works great. I shot all my records in 600 Yd benchrest using a 6br body and a 7mm 08 F/L die, base first then the shoulder). I have a custom die now, a SS Newlon die reamed with a die reamer. And had Northern Coatings low temp titanium, TiN )coat the die for $25.00 mim order. I think you can have 2 dies coated for the $25. All said and done about $200.00 total. If I had it to do over I would bought bullets,or a barrel, the 2 die worked.

Yeah, i like the savage target but i cant find it anywhere under 450 or so and, need it to be,because I'm on a tight budget. if i were to find one cheaper than that i would go for it. Ive heard of guys buying them for about 350. I get what you are saying about the throats. I thought that it was just in the 6.5-284 barrels and not so much in 6br. It just seems like a good idea to by the whole gun and spend less than 1000, rather than over.,just for now). And on another note, how are the savage fclass stocks?

I really like the Savage F-Class stock. Solid, nice looking. Good luck with the gun and share your bughole loads.
