6 BRA Bullet Selection

So I just ordered my Barrel (8 twist) for my 6BRA. Im curious what bullets everyone is running and why. Im looking at the 105 VLD, HVLD, Hybrid,108 Berger,105 JLK and 107 SMK.

I know everyone is different but lets see why you like the bullets you are running.
Thanks Guys

tom its not so bad if you can keep beer out of the

cups.
I shoot TWO different bullets in mine. Vapor Trail on the old die, and Vapor Trail on the new die. Life is to short to screw around filling up millions of cups sorting bullets:D.

I assume you have previously sorted Vapor Trails to know they are that good.

Can I ask what your sorting criteria was and how much better the VTs compared to Berger or Sierra?

I have great loads developed for Berger 105gr VLDs and Berger 108gr BT. I have more of the 105gr VLDs so that's my go to bullet at the moment, jammed 10 thou and very accurate. Both bullets were fuss free in tuning and very consistent.

That depends. I have had some Lots of Bergers and Sierras that sorted as good as Vapor Trails. Ones with just .001 variation in bearing and weights were great. Matt

I’m shooting Berger 105VLDH, I had a healthy stock of them on the shelf.
31gn 4895 jammed 5thou.. tuned easy and shoots consistently well so far.

Im using 105gr hybrids (worked great in my 6BRX ) because i have over 3000 sitting on my bench (1:7.5 twist barrel).. cant tell you a load yet as I'm waiting for some decent weather where it isn't blowing its ass off so i can load test

I would agree with Tom if the Vapor Trails would do anything but vertically string from my BRA barrel. Tried them at multiple seating depths with bad results everywhere. Plus, you cannot get them and if you could, they are very costly compared to the various Bergers and Barts. They do seem to measure out consistently.

After much testing I went with Berger 108's. They are a tangent profile and should like a jump. I jumped out to .030" and gave up. At touch they seem to be the best for me. The only problem is their contour can be as much as .003" different, bullet to bullet. What a royal PIA to deal with if that difference is significant. I have not had testing time to figure that out.

Going to try a .005" jam later this week. Already loaded, I seated them all out more and then varied the seating depth for each one to read the same jam distance, no matter the contour differences. Vapor Trails and even Barts are so much better made. Even my 105 Hybrids are made better.

What your barrel likes is hard to predict. Probably a shame Vapor Trails are so hard to get and so expensive. But, if you want to run with the top dogs, it's an option to consider. The other option is to be like me testing lots of bullets. Now with over 500 rounds through the barrel I still have not found anything that shoots well.

Also, fireform a 100 cases in that barrel before trying to test. I did 50, tested with some results and then the barrel sped up. That ruined all my testing results. By the time I finished fire forming I was already above 200 in round count and nowhere. Get a fireform barrel for anything past the first 100 rd. break-in.

Thanks for the Reply I was thinking about Brass and what i want to do with it I have 200 pieces of Brass I was going to fireform. My plan was to fireform 50 for break in then use 50 to find a fireforming load then use the remaining 100 for local match. Then begin load development. Seems like the best route and my barrel should be completely "Broken In" by the time i start load work up. Its a 1 in 8 twist so im thinking the 105s and 107s will be my best option. I already have 105s and I can find 107s in stock. Who knows when ill be able to find some hybrids or hunting and ill be waiting till june for VTs but if i cant find a load by the time the other bullets are available i could try them.

Larry, I told you to pull that barrel at 400 rounds and Krieger would give us a new one. If by 2-300 its not shooting, it probably never will. Especially if it wont shoot a vapor trail. There has to be some thing wrong there!

I dont have a BRA chambered bbl yet but my 6 BR`s and BRDX`s do really well with the thin jacketed 105 VLD Hunting bullets in the orange box,,the only bullet I ever tried that out shot the VLD-H was some 104 gr bullets I got from the ads here that were made by the Ballistic Idiot,,,but I never loaded any Vapor Trails,,

Stan all the money you have into the rifle and know you want to get cheep on the bullets? Like I always say to people, Like the BAT Advertisement says Buy the best and cry once.
