6 br load workup

I'm totally new to 6 Br. I'm about to start workup on a new 1-8" 28" barrel, on a Barnard S reciever. I don't have FB dimension, but it puts the base of 105 VLD just about the neck shoulder junction. Cases are all sized, turned, and primed with BR-4's. I've got Varget, H4895, and N150. Varget seems to be the most common go to powder, so I thought I'd start there. My question is how big an increment to use when bumping up powder charge? I often use 0.3 gr when working with .308's- should I go down to 0.2 for the smaller case?

That's what I do and even down to .01 when its grouping tight consistently. And since you appear to be seating the bullets that deep in the casing, are you even touching the lands or are you going with a jump? Just curious as I'm not loading bullets that long.

Hey Wolf, in my humble opinion N150 may be the best accuracy powder you listed. Myself and several friends of mine that shoot 6mmBR's using bullets in the 105gr category, have all noticed that N150 is one awesome powder. I have shot just about everything in my 6mmBR (except H4895>>which I would assume would also be a stellar powder) and have found N150 to be unreal.. It has also been my experience that somewhere between 30.2 and 30.5grs of N150 will give you the accuracy you are looking for. I have used Varget, RL-15, N540, N150 and Benchmark for powders. They ALL work well, however, N150 gave the most consistent accuracy of them all..

thanks Gents,

I'm really glad to hear that N150 works so well, as I have lots of it. At this point it's time to just load some up and see how it shoots!

Hey Wolf, do me a favor if you would... Please PM me with the results of the N150>>> I would greatly appreciate it..

Happy to, but it could be a while. Range trips can be sporadic, depending on the family sched.

I also use N150 with my Berger 105gr VLDs and found the best load to be 30.5 grains.
ES was 9 fps and 1/4 moa elevation spread at 300yds. Bullets seated to give a square mark on them.
That will do for me!

Geordie, it is funny, I have not seen a 6mmBR NOT shoot with N150.. My friend (Smoking-Brass on here) turned me to that powder and I have turned a few others on to it and it is just awesomely accurate! So far I have not even heard that someone could not get their BR's to shoot with that powder..

Well, as luck would have it I have a pound of N150.... Guess I'll try it in my 6BR. One of the club members built two rifles in 6BR and he mentioned that he was using N150 and he was very impressed with it. And I thought Varget was the go to powder; tests will confirm.

I had a chance to shoot a few groups, and N150 did really well. No velocity data, but accuracy was great. I'm not likely to get to shoot again until after Christmas, but when I do, N150 will be at the top of the list.

After reading these posts I want to load up some N 150. I am curious what primers you guys have been using with the N 150? I currently shoot 30.2 grs of varget , cci 450 primers, and Berger 105 hybrids. I have both CCI BR4 and 450's on hand.

Thanks, Eric
