6.5x55sweede

Would a 6.5x55sweede on mauser action and match barrel be competitive at 600 to 1000 yds? Like to build one on an action that belonged to my father. Appreciate any comments

Soon to be new shooter to f-class

Not that it can't be done on a mauser action, but there are better options bro.

Mauser action has slow locktime, tolerances are sloppy. Make a good hunting rifle, but percision....yeah but..ya know what I mean.

F-class how much ya got to spend? I shoot it and I am somewhat successful.

A savage 6.5x55 is kewl. If you go Remington....go with a custom action clone first IMHO. Of course you can buy a target rifle with a trued remington from time to time on the cheap.

My humble suggestion is 1-8.5 twist 30 inches Heavy Palma contour. Should get ya to 3k FPS no problemo.

Stock...here we go with money again. A custom Rig can really set ya back some $. Trust me.

If you want to build over time...its really hard to beat a Savage IMHO.

Savage action, pac-nor barrel, Super SNiper scope. Do you shopping right and you can put-to-gether a semi-custom rig for $1000...thats everything.

More money becomes available. Better stock, scope...etc...etc.

Your father's rifle I know has sentimental value, but if your going f-class with the new target this year...bro the mauser wouldn't be my first choice.

I argee that there is alot better options out there. BUT if its going toget you on the firing line I would do it. There is a pretty big learning curve that first year or two anyway. after you move up to a new rifle & equipment you can loan out this rifle to some one else who wants to try it.

I just put together a 03 rifle for a loaner gun. I looked in my safe one day & there in the corner was the 03 spriney I bought back in 2002 & have not touched. I looked over on the shelf & there layed a 30cal Kreiger Barrel that has 4500+ rounds through it. & up one shelf was a old prone style wood stock. So pulled off the old factory barrel & sporter stock & sent it to my smith to chamber in 30'06. I had dies i wasnt using & 150 peices of 70's vintage brass still new in the white boxes. Load test the last few weeks are un real. I was shocked to say the least.
using up a box of 200gr match kings. I found a load that shot.545 MOA. So I said to my self, Self i better check that again. so I went out a week later with the same load. this time it shot a .325 MOA!!!! I then did it again a week later & that one went .497 MOA. Now I have to see if it will still group at 1000. The ES was a little higher than I like so I will have to check it out one more time.
The ole swede would make a great starter gun & a nice handme down for the next guy. My goal was to let new shooters use this rifle F class style so they could see if they would like to invest in there own equipment.
Hope you give it a try I think you will like it. I know I do.

Thanks Russ for the reply. That is my idea now to make something a little lighter on the bad shoulder and dads gun again. My retirement gift, I will build a serious f-class rifle. Any thoughts on how competitive the 6.5x55 is for fun? Thanks again

Swedes can run with any of the 6.5 calibers if done right. 3000 FPS Can be done with a 28-30 inch barrel. No problemo.

Wayne, get a Savage 12BVSS in 308 with a 20MOA scope base and a good scope and go get'em. Best way I know of getting into the game and as time progresses, you can start tricking it out.
