6.5x55 loads

Thought id throw this one out there. I havent seen much talk about the 6.5 swede.

Got any good loads you like for 6.5x55?

Well, a lot depends on the rifle you use to shoot the Swede. I have a number of military rifles, and like a moderate dose of R-22 behind the 140gr match bullets. Velocity is a tad warmer than issue military loads. In a modern action, like the Remington 700 with 30" tube I use for F-Class, things are much warmer. I'd worry to put the exact amount of H4831SC for fear someone would put it in a military action, but I am clocking 2900 with the 142gr Matchking. No recoil to speak of, long brass life, no sticky bolt lift, and with over 1200rds downrange the borescope shows no damage to the throat yet.

YES.

Lapua brass
VIN N560 powder
WOlf Primers
Berger or Lapua bullets.

Jam your bullets .015-.020 into the rifling.

Now you'll have to work out your charge but you want it to go 2950 or thereabouts.

30 inch barrel- 47-48 grains
28 inch barrel 48.6-49.6

All depends on your chamber and what not.

I have a .294 neck reamer I use.

I tried a lot of powders in mine and found that H4831SC and H4350 gave me the best accuracy with the 139 and 140MKs. My current load is 45grs of H4350 and seems to be a tad on the hot side. It shoots well but I am in the process of backing it down now to see if I can find a spot where it will shoot as well but with less powder.

I have not cronographed the load but I can use my old data from my 6.5x284 for comeups and wind drift out to 800yds so I know its on the warm side.

I was exclusively useing R22. played with R19 with 129gr bullets

Ive been useing H4831, 47grs with 140s and 45 grs with 155 lapuas and like it. I tryed h4350, 44gr with 140s also

I just loaded some 129gr bullets with 45.5 gr of H4350 and imr 4350 to test and compare

Reloader 22 varies too much lot to lot. VIN N560 costs more but IMHO its worth it.

I got some Norma MRP, but I haven't had time to test it yet.

The Swede is truely an awesome round.

As usual, I am blazing my own trail for the 6.5X55 by using the new Berger 120's and VV 560 in a 1-10 Kreiger; almost 99% case full. Has anyone experienced the "dreaded donut" in the Swede? I just received my K&M services expander and neck turner in steel as the thought is that carbide is not needed for the donut problem--- any experiences to the contrary?? Cordially, Overbore

The donut is on the inside of case - unless you section a case hard to take a picture of. Check with Homer Simpson for more donut info.

You can't see it in a photo. Its a slight brass flow into the neck shoulder junction inside the case. You'll notice a few rounds when your loading, seating the bullet will go a bit harder than the others.

This is cased by the dreaded donut. Screws up neck tension and seating, pressure..etc.

Its not a big deal with the inside neck reamer/turner that K&M puts out. Takes the donut out, just anheal ever 5 rounds or so and keep shooting.

I am going to try Norma MRP gain and see how it does, very similar burn rate to VIN N560 and Reloader 22.
