6.5x47 Lapua hunting load work up

Worked up a load for my Savage rifle with the 143 Grain ELDX bullet. 35.5 grains of Varget in Lapua cases. No neck turn or anything. Seated at 2.8 OAL. Five shots got me SD of 5 and ES of 11. This is an amazing cartridge. Picture is 3 shots at 100 yards. The shot in the center is after zeroing when I removed the Magnetospeed.

If you can't kill a deer in the woods with that, get out of the woods. Who cares about ES on a deer rifle to be used in the woods. You have a winner for the woods in my book. Go hunt, have fun, save the obseesion for match guns in matces, that is more than enough aggravation, lol. Shoot a big one, or not so big, have a good time and enjoy the experience.

It seems once you start chasing that precision the bug takes over. I am looking forward to opening day. Taking a whole week off to hunt for the first time in years.

I absolutely love mine. 20 inch barrel using a suppressor. It's like shooting a .22 . Killed a big 9 pointer at 100 yds on 10.30.2020 weighed 218 lbs. I'm using 130 Berger Hunting VLD over H4350. Dropped him in his tracks. Enjoy your rifle....you're gonna love it!

Here is a picture of a 3-shot group my wife shot at 1k with the Berger 135 Classic Hunter and H4350. This load shoots under 0.1 moa. Her best group measured under 0.05 moa at 200 yards.

Sweet! Love to see little groups! My best 3shot at 600yds was .256” and with the same load and brass shot at Montana was .259” with 6.5-284!

Load for 6.5-284 is h4831sc ,fed210m, 142mksand lapua brass 1-9 twist 30” barrel! This was done some15 years back! I believe it was 50.3gr of powder and .005-.007 off the lands! 2975 FPS! Back then I was recording 20 shot groups at 600yd with a digital camera to pick out the soft brass! Then take the 10 best shots at 600yds and those brass pieces would stay together for life!! I believe best was 4” at 1k for 10 shots! I still shoot and run matches at 600yds but have been playing with the short range game 6ppc! I still travel and play softball also and have hard time keeping up with things! Happy holidays be safe and keep those little ones coming!
