6.5x47 Lapua Bushing size question???

Hi All,
trying to decide on busing size for Forster neck sizing bump die. Can anyone confirm my reasoning. I don't yet have my rifle, but want to get the dies etc beforehand. Here is what I know...
Reamer for the chamber neck is 0.291
Unfired, unloaded brass outside neck diameter is 0.288
Rifle made with same reamer and by same gunsmith, is being reloaded with Redding bushing die, using 0.286 bushing.
So if I have may facts right, brass sized with the .286 bushing, should spring back approx 0.002 to outside diameter of 0.288? I realize that the spring back can change, as the brass gets worked, with reloading. Does this seem right? I noted that the bushing that Forster sell with there bushing bump die kits are all larger (0.287,0.289, 0.291) than this? Any help is appreciated.
cheers
Additional: I decided to seat a projectile and measure the outside neck diameter. I used a 7mm08 seater die. Anyway, the outside diameter measures 0.290" (using a micrometer). So more ??? Is 0.004 too much neck tension? If I used a 0.288 bushing, the loaded outside neck diameter should still be 0.290, but with only 0.002"neck tention, right? Is 0.0005 (clearance around the neck) enough to let the projectile release, when fired? I definitely don't want to turn necks.
cheers

With your .291 neck, you will have to turn necks to achieve a final loaded neck diameter of around .288-.289. At very minimum you need at least .002 IMO. My chamber in my 6.5X47 is a .293 no turn neck. Lapua brass runs at .288 out of box, I run an expander mandrel thru the case necks, giving me .289 diameter and then seat bullets giving me .290-.2905 loaded neck diameter with ~.001 neck tension, fired rounds out of my rifle measure exactly .292, and I will experiment with both .288 and .289 bushings when I resize. I am still in break in mode on my rifle and have not resized any fired cases yet. Hope this helps.

The min. NO turn dim. is .292 --most old and new brass load at .289/.290 ....I dont know why gunsmiths dont listen to Kiff.....he knows what is right and what requires turning....and all the other body taper etc. dims.....part of the confusion comes from people trying to improve on case capacity shoulder angle etc and dont know what they are doing....and wow,,does it evr complicate the resized die dims ---every tom-dic and harri want to add a lil' here and take a lil' there.....listen to your reamer man ......Roger

40X & expiper,
thanks for that. About now, I'm hoping that I am having a bad memory moment, and also hoping that the reamer is 0.293 ::). I'll double check, as I do have confidence in the gunsmith, that he knows what he's doing. I'll update the post, when I spoken to him.
cheers

Ok, so I my memory is like swiss cheese or a well used target board... :-[.

Gunsmith confirmed the reamer is in fact 0.293", so will not be turning necks :). But will be purchasing at least another bushing, a little bigger than the one I have on the way.

Thinking 0.288" should be close.

If your loaded neck is 0.290" and you want 0.001" neck tension then you need a 0.288" bushing (actual size). Spring back of 0.001" is normal. The complication is that Forster seem to mark their bushing the actual size they are. So if using a Forster you would order a 0.288" bushing. But, Redding seem to try to compensate for the spring back. I don't use Redding, but based on reports of others you may need a 0.289" Redding bushing to get a 0.289" sized neck (before loading).

Thanks RonAKA, I have Forster dies and bushing on the way, so from what you are saying, if I order a Forster 0.288" bushing, I'll be getting close.
The person who gave me their bushing size, has a rifle made with the same reamer, but I think he has Redding dies, which might account for the difference in bushing size.

Hi All,
thought I'd post an update and ask another question. Maybe I should be starting another thread?
My new dies arrived, from the US, in 7 days - Thanks Gunstop ;D.

I got a Forster bushing bump die and Ultra seater die. Small problem, the decapping pin doesn't want to stay in the end of the decapping rod or the bushing bump die ???
Anyone have an idea, apart from maybe gluing it in?
cheers
