6.5x47 brass problem

I am having a problem with my brass being gouged when extracting. upon extracting my brass, the guides for the locking lugs are leaving a scratch about a 1/8in. long just before the shoulder on the body of the case. I took the gun back to the builder and showed him what was happening and he told me it was just the nature of the beast. He said he could lighten the extractor spring but that's all that could be done and to not worry about it. Maybe I am to picky but i don't like the fact that every time i extract a empty it gouges a line in my laupa brass. Just wanted to know if their is anything that can be done or if I'm stuck with the scratches.

You can take a piece of nail file and remove the burr from the edge of the boltway -- this area has no effect on the function of the gun. It's easier to do with the barrel off the action and I would expect the gunsmith to do it for free as it should have been looked at prior to fitting the new barrel.

already suggested that he just blamed it on case design. Thanks though will get on that tonight. Never will he get my business again.

Hello 7run,

what kind of action is used for your rifle?.
I have the same problem with the German built SWS action.
First I thought it was a burr in the chamber, but after that was removed i had the same problem.
When i remove the empty case from the chamber the ejector pin
pushes the case to the right.

regards

I have the same problem. Mine is on a RB/LP/RE action. There there was a burr on the edge of the opening on the eject port. I removed the burr and the cases were still getting it. I looked again and the burr was back. It was being caused by the extractor slot cut into the bolt lug, it had some sharp corners on it and a sloppy bolt fit is allowing it to contact the port opening and gouge it when working the bolt in a hurry. I smoothed up the sharp edges on the extractor slot to reduce this effect but im not sure it's fixed as the cases are all scared in several places now.

I fixed the problem by reducing the spring tension and rounding the rails for the locking lugs. The spring tension was the major problem.
