6.5Creed Hunting Help

Howdy all.

I'm gonna build me a huntin' gun!!

Seriously though, I'm looking to build a nice little hunting rig for eastern whitetail.

I have a #4 sporter contour barrel coming in an 8 twist and want to use 130-ish class bullets in it. Shots will be no longer than 100 yards (he has the room, I just won't take them). I'm looking for suggestions on bullet/powder combos that will work as well as can be expected.
Accuracy trumps.

I've not gun hunted before (only bow) so I would really appreciate some guidance.

Thanks.
Lots of good advice. Definitely some homework to do deciding which load recommendation. Here's one more. Powder is easy...H4350. Bullet is pretty easy too being the shot is 100 yards max. Nosler Partition. Can't ever go wrong with that bullet for deer. They offer some weight options in your preferred bullet weight. Good luck. John.

H4350 of course works well in 6.5, but so do many, many other powders if you don't mind 100fps or so of difference. I've seen good accuracy in 6.5 with anything from RL15 to RL26 in burn speed. H4831sc, H4350, IMR4350, RL23, Varget, etc.

6.5 isn't powder picky at all-- the shooters tend to be more so. But if you are clever enough to recognize that dropping down to 2500fps or so with a 140s give up almost nothing in terminal performance, you have LOTS of options for powder.

RL26 is unicornish right now. H4831sc is the most accurate I've used. Slower yes.
