6.5 x 47 Lapua Still competitive?

Just shot mine today out to 850. Getting a little long in the round count but, Wow.
It's like the 6.5 of the 6BR. Easy button.
It just made my decision on which rig to bring to the season opener in Raton.
What is considered long in round count for this cartridge? Mine still shoots at 2000+. Hart HV contour 26" 8 twist

Uncle Mike....What round were you shooting @ 850 with your 6.5x47 ? or
should I say whats your favorite long range projectile in that caliber for competition.

I think you have me confused with moondog...I shoot only to 500 with 140 Berger Hybrid, H4350, CCI 450, .010 jump, 2615fps. Low end accuracy node but that's where it's most stable at that range.

Mine has just a few over 2100 rounds.
I'm shooting the 140 hybrids jumping them .012. Interesting,I was in tune for 1500 rounds with 50.1 grains and dropped 1/2 grain to tighten it up again.
Shoots as well as it ever has. I shoot mine suppressed, I'm also at 5000 ft. It shot really well in Raton a few weeks ago. Wish I could say the same!

2014 and no gun yet? I'd be more worried about where my gun is more than the caliber. Something's fishy.

The rifle did arrive in a reasonable time with a 32" .308 barrel. The local postal service lost the 26" 6.5x47 barrel whilst it was being sent for cerakote finish.
The rifle was the first that had been made by my trusted gunsmith and has the serial number No 1. He was working in conjunction with a bolt designer and for reasons unbeknown to me they parted ways.

The .308 suffered feeding issues and a seriously heavy bolt lift from the start and I accepted that there may be some teething issues. Sadly as he is now working on his own and progress has been slow and was hampered in no small way by my rifle being put into secure storage for 12 months whilst I went through a divorce.

As it stands today I have not had the rife for around 18 months and my goodwill is as you can expect running out. I have still to shoot a 6.5x47 round through the rifle. The only good side is that I have a lot of new Lapua brass and Redding dies at 2014 prices.

I hope to have the rifle back with me in the coming weeks.

It’s been hit on the head - Lapua didn’t market the 6.5x47 much at all - it was always going to be a small seller for them, being designed as a specialist 300m round for European competition.

I run a hot F-Open 6.5x47 with 140 Hybrids at 3100 from a 31” barrel, accuracy is excellent.

Re17 helps explain the tremendous speed! What distance and grouping/performance are you seeing with it?

100 yard is load development at my club.
300 yard was November at approx 2 deg Celsius, competition.
600 yard was Nov at the same competition, same temperature.
900 is Bisley last September.
I’ve shot it to 1200 yards and it’s supersonic to 1400 yards.

I just dumped a 6.5 Creed for my trusted .260 Imp. Could not get velocity even with 130 gr bullets.
.260 Imp - Moly 142 MK's, 45.0 H-4350, 210M 2950 fps.

Thats a beautiful water line you have at 900 my friend using the RS60 or RL17 for us folks. I like that a lot.
Im running Varget and its working real well, so never thought about RL17....but now I gotta look at it..hmmmm

It’s certainly temperature sensitive, so don’t let rounds bake in the sun, even for a few minutes or you’ll get vertical. I double box mine usually (if I remember..!) and that keeps them a consistent temp.

I got a cooler for the Arizona summers...been doing that for a while now.
They're real cool, at least till they hit a 200 plus degree chamber.....I dont let them sit there too long at all.
In my head I think it helps with the vertical...and on paper it looks pretty good.

Just be careful using my data please - my Rifle is throated LONG specifically for this setup. Having the 140s encroach deeply into the case is bad news...
