6.5 x 47 Brass - Anything Other Than Lapua?

Despite the title, I always use Lapua brass, for everything, but prefer not to use it in a gas gun, since it does get beat up. I am resurrecting an old AR-10 build I shelved for a while, and would like to use 6.5 x 47 (since I will use that in a bolt gun), but chewing up expensive Lapua brass is not so attractive. I do not think there is any other source for 6.5 x 47 brass other than Lapua, but thought I would ask.

Phil, once Lapua brass was scarce in the '47. I formed a bunch from Rem 22/250 brass that was new, ends up with a shortish neck. Accuracy was and still is fantastic. A hydro die would sure help you, but fire forming loads for deer hunting was very accurate with the Rem brass.

You have to remember to get the carbon ring of the neck!!! I cannot stress this enough!

I used Winchester 22-250 brass in a 6x47 Lapua gas gun with great results. Once I got the gun tuned right with the proper buffer and gas flow it was much nicer to the brass and I switched back to Lapua brass.

I use once fired Hornady Creedmoor to form 6x47. With the same 30 shoulder the set back is easier to accomplish without folding in a section of the shoulder. My last run of 189 Creedmoor cases resulted in 152 finished cases. When I tried some 260 Remington cases my yield was less than 50%

I might note that these are my practice cases saving my Lapua for matches. At 100 yards it is hard to see a difference in groups

I checked out Peterson’s website and can’t find any mention of x47 brass either in production or plans. That would be great if it was true. Do you have a reference?

It’s true, call and ask. They told me May (ish) last time we talked.

I only left my original post uncertain because I couldn’t remember if it was ADG or Peterson, but after looking through my emails it was definitely Ben Preston at Peterson that I spoke with.

Thanks. I will look into this. Worth it to checkout if it is better than Lapua.
