6.5 prc vs 260ai

The 6.8 is interesting if you really don't want to put together a rifle on your own. If you did, there are other .277 options for both short and long action builds. I look at the 6.8 western factory option as a great one for an OTC purchase. Finally a couple makers offering the fast twist .277. Very much desired and over due.

Hey group.
I'm looking for a new bolt action. Being I already have a pair of Grendel's I'm looking at a 6.5mm.
I see the Savage 110 tactical for about 700. Has a 24" barrel whick I'm fine with.
Ive had a 260rem before and liked it.
I'm trying to decide between the prc and the ai version.
If I go 260ai I'll buy a used Remington 700 Magnum rifle and do a barrel swap. The Remington I'm watching is about 550 bucks. I'd probably go with a 26" barrel if I'm rebarreling.

I'm trying to weigh options.
260ai with Lapua small primer brass is nice being I have small rifle primers already and the prc brass is expensive and hard to find.
I have a range to 1100m steel and targets to 1400m.
What's the consensolus vs the two?
Availability rules. 260ai can be formed from 308, 7-08, .243, etc etc.
In normal times I’d suggest the PRC, as I has a lot to like. Loaded to the same speeds for a bullet weight, barrel life will be no worse. It has more performance potential.

But brass availability kills it for now. I’m a big 6.5crd fan, but I’d suggest absolutely the 260ai is the smarter choice for you. Unless you can find some PRC brass, then go for it.

It took me some time to get brass for my prc. Found some at brunos and 1 box at sportsman's. I had adg on backorder but cancled that once i got lapua. Mine is strictly for hunting so i feel 200 pieces should last me a long time since it takes a long time to get drawn in az.

PRC brass is harder to find than getting drawn in AZ. 3 years in a row as non-resident! But, being part of several reloading BST groups on FB, PRC brass is always in short supply, then dies to match your chamber is another constant issue.

My vote would be for the 260AI. My reason, like listed before would be brass and trimming. I have 1000s of once fired Lake City 308 brass that I reform to all different calibers. When building a rifle, I try to chamber to a caliber that has a 308 parent case for this reason. Its a bit more work, but if you enjoy handloading, it seems to be more fun than work.

Again the prc is basically a 6.5x284, just a little shorter and with a magnum bolt face. Prc brass is non existent while the out of fashion 6.5x284 brass is available everywhere.
Sometimes the latest isn't the greatest in this case. Seems with the shortages we are all facing, maybe sticking with what's available Trump's the hype of latest and greatest. Seems like this may be the case in the 300PRC vs 300WM. Brass availability is better with the old 300WM.

Yep I went with a 30 nosler over the 300 prc and Peterson brass was super easy to score
