6.5/308 to 260AI

I cannot seem to find the sammi spec's for the 6.5/308 to compare the diamensions to the 260rem or the 260AI. I have a new barrelled action in 6.5/308 tight neck, and I'm considering or wondering if it can be opened up to either 260 or 260AI.

The short answer is yes...BUT

Not knowing the specs of the reamer used for your chamber is one problem. The other problem is that a true Ackley Improved chamber is approximately .004' shorter to the neck/shoulder junction from the base of the case than the parent cartridge.

Given that, the safest course of action would be to set the barrel back to rechamber.

if you consider that .004" is about the thickness of a human hair, why sweat the small stuff? Adjust your

Isn't a .260 remington just exactly a 6.5/308?

I would ream away... You can do it yourself if you have a barrel vise and headstock to turn the reamer. If you can shoot your cases as you ream, you'll see your progression.

A Redding Type S bushing die in 7mm-08 AI or probably the .243AI can be used with a . 284 or whatever neck bushing you choose. There is easily .004 if not .4 inches of extra adjustment in your sizing die, or get a Redding Competition shellholder set in #1 size.

if you can set the barrel back the lengh of the neck (that about .250'' , you should be able to have the chamber fully clean up,

but for what you get id stick with 6.5-08 what 150fps or so anyway :o it all i have found ackleys gain
