6.5 Grendel Bolt Gun - Thoughts?

Howdy all.

I’ve bounced back and forth a couple of times on action choice but have finally settled on a 700.
I have a 700 action in 223 at my guy to have the bolt face opened up and a M16/Sako extractor installed. He is going to skim cut the face as well but that’s as far as as this action will go as far as work done to it.
I found someone making RemAge barrels in a reasonable time frame. Going with a 16.25” varmint contour, 1:8 to run 129’s comfortably. Will be run with a silencer.
I have a cheapy stock (for now) that I will run. I will do a hinged floor plate down the road, but this is a blind mag and that’s just fine.
Timney trigger, Weaver USA pic-rail, blah-blah.

Thoughts on this set-up? Any thing on mag box I need to be aware of (it’s the 223 box)? Any other issues concerns I’m not seeing?

I’m hoping to make this a repeater as I want to hunt it.
Bolt work is already underway, so grabbing a PTG will be unnecessary. Besides, I’d like to have the bolt in hand before my deathbed…
 
In the final stages of helping a friend build out a 6arc bolt gun on 700 action. Bushed bolt face and installed sako extractor. He originally bought the ptg bottom metal that accepts AR magazines. Initial testing on feeding proved troublesome with multiple magazines and playing with spacing. Re inletted stock for M5 and went with mdt 12rd aics mag that will fit 2.4coal. This route is feeding very well. Sounds like you are going bdl style so this info might be void. But should be a fun setup!
 
I did one on a 700 bushed a 308 bolt put a m16 extractor and bushed the fp hole. I used an inexpensive Green Mountain 8 twist cm barrel turned to a rem varmint profile cut at 22”I put a single shot sled in there so can’t speak to feeding
I get sub half minute accuracy with n133 and hornady 123 a max at 2625 fps some groups even a little better ; ) I built it for my wife to shoot but I’ve been having some fun with it too

@paperpuncher I hope to have as good results. I am considering having the bolt bushed as well. Not really sure it’s worth it.
 
I have had a few of these in the past and currently have two in the safe. I like 'em and I like to run 123's in them. It is a very adequate round for deer and hogs and like any other round shot placement is important. With a little load tinkering, it can be quite accurate. Prefer it to the 6ARC. Your .223 mag with a little tweaking should feed fine. The shorter cartridge can be a bit tricky but keep the magazine lips tight towards the front of the mag so the bullet has less of a chance to pop up nose first.

Why a 308 box?
Grendel fits in a small frame AR. Same COAL as a .223Rem.

I could be missing something. I'd love the education if you don't mind.

The 223 box is pretty short and ive found on something inbetween like that its better to crimp it down to feed rather than opening it up
 
Looks like the barrel will be done by Thursday this week. They'll ship ASAP.

Waiting on the action to come back. I'll screw this guy together and get it figured out shortly. Should be a good time.
