Cutting slot in bolt lug?

As an alternative to opening up the bolt face on a Rem 7 bolt, I have a 700 bolt with mag face ,but it doesn't have the what I believe you call an anti-bind slot in the bolt lug. I have a spare 700 action, but it uses a bolt with the slot in the lug.
So, how difficult to add the slot to my mag bolt and any drawbacks/ caution flags in doing such a modification besides overheating the lug?

It shouldn’t be a difficult job with the right tool, I would look for a slitting saw for that task and the heat produced during the process should be minimal.

A small end mill will make quick work of that.

I recall seeing a video by SpeerChucker (Rod Henrickson) where he used a slitting saw to do this. Can't find it in a search though.

Yep, have a spare 700 short action I was planning on using with the mag bolt . Thanks for all the suggestions.

I have also used a Dremel cut off wheel in a tool post grinder on the lathe. Makes a nice smooth cut.

That's true. Simplest way is to put a factory slotted one in your fixture to line up the tool/bolt lug with the angle and then change bolts.
