Howa Bolt question

G'day,

I have a Howa 223 custom build. Its setup as a varmint rifle. I want to run another cal like 6x47Lapua or alike on it aswell. Could I just get the bolt body for a 308 bolt face and run the firing pin from my 223 bolt in it and swap over as needed?

Where are you going to get the bolt for the Lapua?

As long as it's a Howa bolt, and it has been headspaced for your action, it's not a problem and done a lot..

If I dont need to get a new firing pin and alike then i wont but will eventually. Its just in planning stages for now. I think PTG goes bolt bodies for Howas.

Quickoz, just my two and a half cents, Howa has two different size short actions and bolts, a mini (6" long) and a standard (7" long) and the 223 is chambered in both but the 308 bolthead, I think, is only in the standard action.

I have two Remington 788's, one is 222 (short action) and the other is a 308 (long action). The bolts and actions are different lengths by about a half inch. and there is no way a cartridge in the 30-06 case size will fit in the long action.

Might be able to swap the bolts, but I doubt the 6x47L case will feed from your 223 magazine. Of course if shooting single shot, that won't be an issue
