Good morning,
Before I get flamed for posting a topic that has been discussed before, I'm looking for precision powders. As of right now I have h4350, r17, r16. Has anyone else had great results particularly at 600 yards with other powders? I'm looking forward to you're replies. Thank you.

IMR4451 was working fairly well for me but RL16 produces a bit more velocity in my rifle. I’ll be trying out Staball 65 soon.
Superformance might be worth a look with heavier bullets like 143-147gr.

I shoot 500 Yards, I use VARGET, but then I have 5 lbs from last year. I have used Staball 6.5, worked well. I have improved my shooting skills since I last used it. I Have Load Tested some VHT 550 too but only at 100yds did ok, I need to do it again.
Also using Berger 140 VLD's

I've heard good things about the powder. I might purchase a pound on my next powder purchase to give it a try.
Ya better grab a keg!!
Yesterday I ran a quick ladder, i backed off jam .013 on a fresh barrel chamberedby @WSMNUT , loaded in .2 increments.
Wind was 5-10mph from 11 o'clock.
Minus the 44.5 load which is .5 moa, its shooting in the .3's with no load development.
I'm loading 50 @44.3 for a Fclass club match on Saturday.
I almost guarantee load will change and need adjustments but it's a great place to start and have fun doing it.20210405_103033.jpg

Both stabil 6.5 and superformance produced great speed but neither could hold an SD to save its life. Best I could get with either powder all the way through the range with 10 shot strings was a SD of 18fps (not very impressive). With 42.3gr of H4350 I’m holding consistent 10 shot SD’s of less than 6fps. RL-16 gave me great speed and very good accuracy, just a little hot for my liking (although I was easily getting single digit SDs).

I strictly shoot H4350 from my 6.5CMs now, but I was shocked at how well H4895 performed. It has nearly the same potential energy as Varget and it does burn hot, but the results were very good. Just load it 1-2 nodes down from the top to slow down the erosion. I’m still learning every day but I think with a powder burn chart in front of you, a person can really surprise themselves with how many different powders can actually produce very good results. Just work the load up from a reduced known load and check your nodes with a good chrony.

I have used Hybrid HV100 in a lot of applications and it has worked very well in all of them, and I would have used it a lot more but I could never find the stuff on a regular basis. no one stocked it only when I was out of town or visiting someone I would find some.

I am new to this. Thanks for my approve.
I mainly deer hunt. But want to get into long range shooting.
I found a load that my rifle likes. I shot. Browning x bolt long range max 26 invh barrel with 1:7.5 twist. Only shot st 100 snd a 3shot group. H4831 at 45.6 gr. 2.800 it shot a group that I covered completely with a nickel.
I have loaded up some more rounds with that powder and playing with seating depth.
Plan on going up and down at .002 to see if I can get group tighter.

Sounds like you have a pretty good load already. If you are trying to stay within magazine length, I doubt you will find seating depth adjustments very effective. Do a search in the "Reloading Forum" for "Carolina Load", I think you will find it of interest.

I've got 5 powders I load in my .260 Rem, and I will be loading in my 6.5 CM to see which gives the best results. Until I can get more bullets though, I'm just going to stick with loading for the .260 Rem, as I am way more invested in it. So far, I have used, RL19, H4350, H4831SC, 6.5 StaBALL, and RL16. Since I can't find RL19 to save my life here, or RL22 for my other rifles, I am dropping it form my list of powders for future load development.

I’m using H4350, Varget and H4831SC in two Creeds and a 6.5x47. I loaded some N555 and Hornady ELD-Xs 143s in one my 6.5 creedmoors last fall before hunting season. It was a compressed load and shot very small but I didn‘t have time to do any load development before hunting season and just stuck with known loads but I hope to revisit that this summer.

I shamefully have shot a ton of 6.5CM in multiple guns.

  • Varget will work but it is too fast to be ideal.
  • IMR4451 is a good powder. Like other Enduron powders, it shoots GREAT at a medium/low speed. It does not like "high" nodes in any cartridge I have tried them in. I shot 140's with 4451 around 2600 out of a 26 inch barrel and it was so awesome I didn't care about the slower speed. Other powders yield 200-250fps more speed.
  • Staball 6.5 is excellent for a ball powder... Bad news... it's a ball powder and temp sensitive. Good news, there seems to be a lot of it available right now.
  • IMR4350 - Kinda meh. It works but it's nothing special. Faster than H4350... Maybe a little slower than Varget
  • H4350 is the absolute king of the powders, for a reason. The more powder you can cram in, the faster your bullet goes, and the tighter your groups get. Quite the opposite of many other powders. Little to no pressure signs even at 44 grains and 140's. That'll give you ~2900 fps with a 140g bullet.
  • I never used 4831sc but one can make an assumption that because it works so well in 284, and 284 also works really well with 4350, that it would be a great powder for 6.5cm. Case capacity might be an issue.
If I were still shooting a 6.5, I would take a serious look at VV555.
