The 123 SST is not a good choice for the creedmoor. Use the 129.This is the only thing that makes me a little nervous about the 6.5 CM as a deer rifle... I have seen a few videos of bullets blowing threw the deer and it running with hardly no blood trail.... Then I have seen videos of deer crumpling and DRT , not running one foot.... My friend has shot some bigger animals in Africa with the 6.5 CM and he said they all dropped right where they were shot including a deer of some kind at over 400 yards , he had some pictures and both where way bigger than a S. Texas deer... Some super expensive hunt his job paid for... He told me he has zero fear of the caliber being under powered... This is why I was trying to get some real world experience from some of you guys who hunt with it... No doubt it's become a very popular round...
I've shot about 30 deer with the Sierra Tipped Gameking and never found a single bullet. Up close and far. Ranges out to 500 and impact velocities below 2,000 fps... 150-200 lbs deer... What gives?I've used the 130 gr. Sierra Tipped GameKing some. I often don't get an exit, which is of concern if hunting near brush thickets. I also used the ELD-X and found the same thing. I prefer the 130 gr Accubond for the 6.5 Creedmoor or a Barnes Tipped TSX. Either will give me a good exit at just about any angle which means big blood train should I need it.
That I don't know. I've shot them from 6.5 PRC and 6.5 Creedmoor.I've shot about 30 deer with the Sierra Tipped Gameking and never found a single bullet. Up close and far. Ranges out to 500 and impact velocities below 2,000 fps... 150-200 lbs deer... What gives?
Those accubonds shoot great but the price is something else. I did have one pencil through a deer at close range and required a second shot. Wound #1 showed zero expansion even though it hit a bone.. exit wound was caliber sized with no flowering.I run 127 gr LRX out of my 260. Only a handful of deer so far but very happy. You didn't state your typical distance, which could play a factor. I researched bullets to the end of the internet when building this. Had shot Accubonds for years out of 7 Mag but the 130 gr 6.5 mm were/are unavailable so that sent me searching.
Seems like poor bullet performance comes from cup and cores at.close range but do well at longer range where velocities fall off. In the mountains where I hunt I've never had a shot past 250 yds so didn't want a bullet that could blow up. Tried Sciroccos but the LRX shot better in my gun. Anything bonded or mono should serve you well in tight quarters.
I've got some great groups with ABs. It's a shame they've become so hard to find...I gave up on Nosler. Idk what Hornady does different, but it seems like you can go anywhere and find their bullets for just about anything. I don't shoot them so maybe they have some that are tough to get, idk. But every shop I stop in has a whole display case full. Those accubonds shoot great but the price is something else. I did have one pencil through a deer at close range and required a second shot. That led me to the Sierra Gamechanger. It's accurate and slippery and has a thick cup. It performs a lot like a bonded bullet but at cup and core prices. At close range it expands really nice.
260 Rem. 2800 FPS impact velocity. Whitetail with wet fur.I've got some great groups with ABs. It's a shame they've become so hard to find...I gave up on Nosler. What caliber did you pencil that deer with? I shot a nice buck at 20ish yards with a 160 gr AB out of 7 Rem Mag, great expansion and only made it a couple of steps.
