6.5 creedmoor and 144gr Berger’s

The 150SMK and the 153 ATIP's have shot great for me. I've only shot the 153's out to 430 yards. I've shot the 150SMK out to a 1k as well as the 147's.

I'm running them at an honest 2700fps out of a 23" barrel. 41.5gr. of H4350.

The 150SMK does have a slight edge over the 147 Hornady in the BC contest but the numbers are so close it would be hard for even an above average shooter to see the difference in my opinion.

I've had no failures with any of those bullets I mentioned above. Even have shot the 135ATIPs and I've run all of these bullets out of my 6.5CM with a 1-6.75 twist barrel. The 135's are coming out at 2800fps and the bullet rpm on those is at 298,666!

So I'm not exactly being nice to all of these bullets rpm wise!

I did the exact opposite and did not test them. Berger says the 144 is a direct replacement for the 140. I loaded my standard 6.5 Creedmoor 140 load, Lapua case, CCI450, 42gr H4350 and seated the 144s without changing the seating die from the 140 setting. I then shot a 500yd F-Class match, I won it with a 597/29X (200/12X, 200/10X, 197/7X)
So, that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!

150 SMK will work from the Creedmoor . They shoot ok, just not as tight as the 140 bergers. New barrel will get the new bullet. #neveragain147ELD #poof #x,x,x,10,10,poof

picked up a bunch of 140 hybrids yesterday.

I measured my 140s and they have the same OAL as the advertised OAL of the new 144s. The base to ogive is also shorter on the 144s. Was hoping that the 144s wouldn’t have to jump so far in my PRC with a .188 FB.

DO you attribute this to the standard 8 tw being marginal, or due to the Bergers just outshooting in general? Would you expect the 142SMK to also be looser than the 140 Berger?

I've had no problems yet with the 147s, but I've only fired 70 of them and only up to 42gr of RL16.

I need to try the 140 RDFs I picked up, I hope they shoot.

I would definitely try the 144's if I didn't already have a bulk of 142 SMK's. I've had great luck with 41.3-41.5 grains of H4350, prime brass and 210M's with 142 SMK's and 147 ELDm's. Currently I'm running 47gr of Reloder 26 under the 142 SMK in my Tikka Tac A1 factory barrel. Did a local PRS style match at Pala. G7 BC of .303 and MV of 2835 was spot on at all distances from 100y zero confirmation out to all distances at the match out to 881. In the event I do the 144 from Berger, I'll probably keep the same powder charge +/- .1-.2gr.

I have a krieger 7.5 twist. I think the 140 is less finiky than the 150. I shoot both in local matches, but always pick the 140’s for camp Perry.

I can't wait to try these out in my 6.5 Creedmoor with some Reloader 26. A 144 at 2950 feet per second will be a very cool combination if it shoots well.
With RE16. 28" 8 twist. Cci450. Only got about .6 moa at 100 but only have 100 rounds through it. Got light extractor mark with virgin Lapua.

Damn how much Rl16 you stuffing in there? I am running them at 2920 with 43gr of rl16 and rem7 1/2s in Lapua brass out of a 30” Bartline.

I started way low and worked up after I had 50 rounds though it. Loading at the range with my chargemaster lite. .3 increaments and a 4" drop tube. Powder was right at the bottom of the neck which meant there was some crunching going on. 43.7

I'm into pressure at 43.6 RL16 with 140 ELDs at 2.83". But I'm also running starline brass so I'd expect to hit pressure a bit early. No chrono, but I'd expect from my 26" tube to be well into the 2800s at 43.6 behind a 140 ELD.

I'm planning to grab a couple hundred Peterson SRPs to work with. I want to try SRP and small flash hole in nicer brass.

On paper, the form factors of the 140 RDF and 144 Berger are really close (and best in class among .264s that I've tabulated). The 150smk has a tiny bit better FF on paper, but I doubt many 8-twist users are seeing the full stated BC of the 150smk.

Here's some stuff from this morning. Loading at the range. 6.5 creed, Shilen Stainless select match, 28", 1-8. I sure wasn't impressed initially after coming from my 6BR barrel on this rifle. You can see most groups are 1/2 moa ish. So I picked 43.2 to stay well away from pressure. Loaded up 15 rounds for 5 groups to seat depth test. Seems a good jump is it in this barrel.

Looks like great shooting to me. 42 grains looked good for a lower node, that’s still a lot of speed for the Creedmoor.
