god i hope it hasn't changed or that i fcked something up. i guess i pull bolt and measure with micrometer and find factory spec sheet ? what parts/areas should i be concerned /looking at? oh god..

and yes i did measure / trim all of the brass

Lots of lessons to be learned from this posting. Even though we don't know for a fact what the root cause actually is, there are a few factors presented that could contribute, independently or combined, that could have caused an excessive pressure situation. OP, thank you for being candid in your bringing this to the forum and trying to be objective and constructive with all the questions being asked. The truth is that mishaps can and DO happen to reloaders REGARDLESS of the amount of experience.

Based on questions asked and info presented, we can all be reminded of the following good practices:

Check case length after every firing
Make sure cleaned brass is free of cleaning medium, or anything else for that matter. Don't forget to check flash holes.
Double check that load recipes are within safe parameters
Double check scale settings
Eyeball your charged cases in the tray under direct light before seating bullets to see if there are any obvious double charges
Before shooting, always runs a dry patch in chamber and bore to remove excess fluids. Then visibly look down bore to ensure it is still free of obstructions. I have found thread from cleaning patches left in the bore from a swabbing.

There are many other good practices. Never hurts to review regardless of experience.

Please let us know if you discover any issues when you analyze your pulled rounds.

Respectfully,

Pete

I would just try another factory load and see what happens. Might be fine. My father in law was out shooting his 22-250AI 2 years ago said he had a round with bad pressure sign. Had to beat bolt open a d blew primer out and lots of smoke.I was not there when that happened but was there when he took rifle back out. Every time he closed the bolt it would fire a round. We found he bent something in the trigger assembly. He replaced the trigger and was good to go. He looked up load he used and he had confused powders. Lucky he did not do more damage.

I would re-check headspace and do a chamber cast to measure diameter.

An example of what obstruction pressure can do. 6mm 107 gr Sierra MK can drop in all the way plus another 3/8”. There was a brake but that blew off.

now im scared. ill have to research that stuff. i tried to drop a bullet down both ends, it wont go in the muzzle at all, and when i pull the bolt and drop it in the chamber it goes in about an inch or two. not sure what it was like before @_@ or how far its sposed to go.

You are certainly going about this the hard way, it’s not rocket science. A process of elimination starting with the powder charge and bullet diameter. The bullets not going to just fall down the barrel. Was the powder a new unopened can or did you buy it from somebody else. I’m guessing you have some user error in one of these items, if the firearm worked before you tried your hand loads then you obviously made a mistake but merely trying to drop a bullet down the barrel isn’t going to resolve the problem. Everyone on this forum will gladly try to help but without these basic items ruled out it’s merely speculation at this point.

I’m betting with all the powder and bullets changing hands right now this will be a serious problem for a few select unlucky individuals. Some will say your load wasn’t that hot but I’ll beg to differ, it doesn’t take much to blow up a gun and I’ve witnessed it first hand by a new reloader. Never ever ever use components that your not 100% certain of. This may or may not be your issue but whatever the case is we need more solid evidence of the basics to help with your issue. New unopened powder and always check your bullet diameters before loading them. It’s normally the simplest of things that will always bite you in the rear.

Referencing my post (#32) - IF a larger bullet (like a .277) was fired I suspect the pressure required to swage it down to .264 might well expand the barrel in the throat area and maybe a little beyond. Not all the way to the muzzle.

just to be clear, the deformity of case IS absolutely a sign of pressure? i guess im just surprised that it isnt "swollen" but instead accordioned backwards about <1mm
this is what always happens?
What really has me scratching my head here is how, after examining that case, you can still not be clear that you had a MASSIVE over pressure event. You had to beat your bolt open. Your primer ejected itself. Your case head not only flowed into the ejector hole, but AROUND the extractor. I’ve seen nothing like it before. You keep wondering how there can be no case swelling, but I don’t see where you’ve mentioned what the case dimensions of this over pressured case are. I’d wager it’s quite swollen. What does it measure? You’re definitely not fitting it back into your chamber. You’ve literally extrude formed brass in the thickest area of the case, perpendicular to the direction it usually wants to travel, and are still wondering if this was pressure? It won’t even fit into a die at this point. I’d say that’s pretty swollen.
What powder were you loading in your 300BLK earlier that day?
I’d almost consider scrapping that rifle, or at the very least paying someone competent to inspect it, if I was you.

holy crap. ya i feel like a moron tbh i didnt even kno i had to worry about that...i basically doused the bolt then stuck it back in lol.

learned a ton
.ill wipe it off then test a factory round. still pretty scared to shoot them.. maybe ill just have gf shoot one of the reloads , in case something goes wrong.
did you just say maybe ill just have gf meaning girlfriend shoot one of reloads, in case something goes wrong, are you running a joke on us, or are you just a slow learner
