6.5 Cal bullet for whitetail deer

I plan on loading for a 6.5 x 55 BJAI for whitetail deer this year. Where I hunt, I can have shits out to 600 yards with majority being 300 or less. I have 130g JLKs, 140g JLKs and 143g ELD-X. I have seen the JLK bullets to perform almost exactly like the Berger hunting VLDs. No experience with the ELD-X.

What do you guys think? What would you shoot?

I've used 120 Gr. Ballistic Tips, 129 Gr Interbonds, and 130 Accubonds. The Ballistic tips put them down quickly but do a lot of damage. These days I'm using the accubonds because there's a few bears around. I've killed a couple of deer with Burger hunting VLD's, but prefer an exit wound. Just one feller's experience.

Didn't know Sierra even made a 130 Gr Gameking in 6.5 cal.

yep, I have shot several with Berger VLD's and some more with 130 Accubond and 140 AMAX all worked well enough, but the AMAX better for white tails.

130gr Sierra put them down hard at 500.

Hunt with the ELD-X. It's a hunting bullet, and is designed to penetrate not only at close range, but also great expansion at lower velocities, retaining 85-90% of it's weight, 400 yards and beyond.

Edit: Your BJ will easily handle the 143 I'm waiting for Hornady to make them in 25 caliber

Long range, I'd use the 6.5 Berger VLDs. Up close and personal, it would be Sierra 130 Matchking. No experience with any of your three listed bullets.

Any of the ELD-X bullets will work fine. Out to 300-400 yards, so will a Nosler partition depending in accuracy. You may find the 140 eldx more accurate than the 143 depending on velocities.

I have shot several white tail with my 6.5 Creedmoor, the Sierra does it's job, all shots were quick and human.

Just one experience here, I used a 260AI for the first time this year. The deer I shot couldn't get any deader. Bullet performed flawlessly.
