6.5 bullet choice

@25ring, I noticed you were located in the same area as Mead. Do you know them well?
I live in Lincoln and pass by there traveling west. I've picked up a lot of these over the last year for me and my friends to save on shipping. The last time was in Oct 24 and supposedly they were down to around 200K left. They are good people and frankly I didn't know much about them but got the grand tour through the plant and found out they've been manufacturing bullet making equipment for decades. They have some pretty good deals on their own bullets and ammo also. I keep bugging them to start making some 6mm bullets. Time will tell.

Having loaded both bullets for my 260AI the 142 gr, Sierra was it's favorite. The 140 gr. Berger Long Range Target is a real close second and groups equally well at 100 yds. but when tested @ 700 yds. the 142 gr. Sierra is better. Fairly easy to clean a NRA 600 yd. F-class Target with 10 shots and 5 in the X ring. This was shot from a portable fold-up bench. The load for the group below was my normal 47.5 gr. H-4831 but recently worked up a load with VV-N555. Thinking it may work well at distances too.

Peterson SRP brass
142 GR. SIERRA HPBT MK HBN C 2.200 O M 2.865 COL T/L B S .511 B C .626
POWDER VV-N555 46.7 GR. PRIMER CCI BR-4 .293 BU. .261 EXP.
SEATED @ 2.196 O M 2.861 COL .004 OTL T/S -17.5

excellent results

They aren't seconds.
I actually spoke to Mead last fall, and I asked what the deal was, and they said they had a party owed them an outstanding balance and agreed to settle in components, and they are 142 SMKs. I got ~1200 of them as a "Sure why not" and weighing them and running them through a comparator I couldn't detect any difference with what I knew to be 142 SMKs that I had on hand from Sierra.
