6.5-284 revisited.

I guess I didn't catch this post earlier....the "Very acceptable" was ONE GROUP ...5 shots...at 750. It measured 2 1/2 inches with about 1 1/2 inch of verticle. I got to that point by shooting a couple of OK 2 shot groups at 100 yards. I assumed that I had FINALLY found the "sweet spot", so I went on to do a round robbin seating depth test at 750 with that combo to try and improve things a little bit more..

If I were to deem a BBL "very acceptable", it would have to shoot EVERY test group under 1/2 moa and the final results would be in the .2 MOA range for EVERY GROUP. That was my benchmark for 1000 yard comp tubes.

Thanks for the reply. Like I said, I am shipping it off to Krieger for them to look at.

Tod

PS...I forgot to add...".... .2 moa ...when I do my part"!! :D

It begs the question; Why wouldn't you do your part ?

UPDATE...

Kreiger tested the tube and said that there was something wrong with it as they couldn't get it to shoot either. It looked fine, but...

So...they are sending me a new tube!!!:D:D

I just need to shake this thing off and try again....a 6.5-284 should shoot as good as it ever did....just because there is a newer, better mouse trap..... I have that little teeny voice in my head whispering 6.5-47L. ;) , but I don't want to buy all new brass and dies.

Thanks,
Tod

It is nice to see that Krieger is taking care of things.

You might wanna give RL-23 or 26 a try if that 4831 doesn't get you what you are looking for.

That speaks volumes for Krieger. I’ve never had a bad Krieger and I’m sure there are not many that have. Nice to know they stand behind their typically excellent product.

I had a bad Krieger 30 cal. bbl. When I finally sent it back after much frustration and time and money spent trying to get it to shoot. They told me it was out of spec and sent me a new one in less than a month. Very happy with their service. But it still cost me alot of money to find out it wasn't my fault. Next bbl was shooting inside of 100 rnds and still doing well.

...some barrels just don't shoot. I had a Benchmark 1:10 308 that I used in F-T/R, shot lights out, several cleans with high X counts at 800 yards, many high scores at 900 and 1K.

When it finally was shot out I put a Hart 1:10 30" barrel on, after a good break-in and about 250 rounds down, I cleaned a F-T/R 800 yard target with a 150-6x, in good conditions, but I used every inch of the ten ring! Take that 800 yard pattern (not a group), extrapolate it to 900 and 1K, it wasn't pretty. My LR F-Class scores dropped and on a good day was a 1 1/4 MOA barrel. After just a bit less then 1000 rounds, it retired and accepted a new position as a tomato stake. It's much happier in it's new role.

I turned the 308 into a prone 6BR with a Kreiger barrel which hammers, we are both happy now.
