6-47 Lapua more Freebore Discussion and the CIP reamer

Freebore is perfect but you will need to neck turn most lots of Lapua brass. A .272 neck give only 1.5-2 thou of total clearance.... not enough for my liking. I run a .274 neck and .093 fb

I was thinking the same thing, but what is your reasoning? Since the FB is enough to stay away from the donut.

I have tried the .272 as a no-turn and ran into pressure signs way before I should have. Most will depend on your lot of brass and how much clearance you have. I like 1.5-2 per side and the .272 does not give that with my brass. The other problem is not all reamers spec out what they are supposed to so take those numbers with a grain of salt. Best option is to have patience with ordering a specific reamer from JGS. Send them a dummy round loaded with your brass and bullet to spec it out. Wait 8-10 weeks and you will be much happier.

Now we are talking about a 243?

No, I am simply saying that the standard 243 (which has the same thickness necks as 6br in Lapua brass) typically uses .006" to .007" clearance and it works great. In fact, the donut is not an issue because the base of the neck is allowed to expand.

Maybe it would be advantageous to have a 6x47L neck set at 276 for no turn Lapua brass.

Well go ahead and order one with .005-.007 total clearance. It’s not rocket science and it will also shoot great, it’ll just work your brass more. JGS recommends a .275 for no-turn... I didn’t want to go quite that large so I settled on .274. Never said anything about the donut being an issue

I believe the 243 Lapua brass is 271 with a bullet inserted. I am not sure what the 6.5 brass would be after resizing, but your reamer might be just the ticket. What FB did you decide on?
